My mates drag car turns the oil to mayonnaise in 4 runs, I really can't see it being suitable for road use, certainly not 100% anyway

Stored safely I'm sure it is, however I doubt the house insurance would pay up if you had a fire and they found out you were storing 100 litres of methanol in the garage !

Given storage would need to be a key thing, price for 210 Litres is £135.00 + £12.50 delivery so 50/50 running is worth looking into ?

Whats the legality of storing it? What regulations is it under? Petroleum regs are pretty stict, diesel regs much more lax.

What is the difference between this methanol and bioethanol found on E85?
                Go Holset or Go RS4

Ethanol found in E85 is ethyl alcohol the same stuff you drink,
Ethanol contains roughly 25% more BTU per volume than methanol does

Methanol is methyl alcohol and is very toxic,
Methanol has a higher oxygenation content per volume, so it can be run richer than an ethanol mixture can (stoich for methanol is 6.4:1, ethanol is 9.0:1)

One other point apart from the fact that storing large amounts at home increases fire risk etc, but when handling meth, you need rubber gloves and safety specs etc as prolonged contact over a period of time can drive you insane, also the fumes from a meth car are very dangerous in a big way hence top fuel dragsters teams have respirators on, and a final point something like 20ml swallowed is fatal, look up the coshe specs for it is evil and I treat it with
Respect when fuelling the race car. Mark

well yes, but i don't think you would drink much petrol before you died either

Yes but methanol is absorbed through the skin and has a cumulative build up over time, so each splash on the skin counts".......it's your risk but I cover up.....mark

point taken, i'm quite paranoid when it comes to chemicals on my skin anyway,
i'm not one of these monkeys that likes to get coverd in fuel, solvant or oil of any sort.

I understand that methanol also absorbs moisture from the air, it's advisable when mixing with petrol that you don't store a lot of it mixed, especially in your fuel tank as you will get water content in the tank if you do.

Yes it is hygroscopic, as is ethanol, I did a post a wile back about phase separation
                              caused by E5/E10 absorbing water.

Also it crystallises in injectors and the top of half full fuel tanks/pumps so during the winter closed season I have to keep tank full and regularly cycle the fuel system to stop crystallising. Occasionally I have to ultrasonic the injectors
Pre the start of the new season, but all the hassle is worth the extra bhp, my millington Opel 2litre gave 265bhp on pump gas and 292bhp on meth on engine dyne at Paul exons. So for a race engine it's brill stuff.....mark
