S2 ABY Chipped? or is it?

    Hi All,

Bit of a peculiar one, when i bought my S2 I had trouble getting it going, now that it is going I have made what seems to be a pleasant discovery.

When the car was purchased there was a flick switch, 2 switches if i remember rightly, Inital thoughts were, cut off switch so they were both disconnected as they apparently didnt seem to do anything.

The N75 valve was disconnected. My mechanic has since looked at the car, the previous owner didnt tell me what the 2 flick switches do?!

Im wondering is there a such thing as a on/off chip? anyone know what im talking about?

I have the urge to unleash the dragon, just dont know how to?!

next plan is get the switch/s wired back up, and have a play!

Just wondering if anyone has got any 1st hand experience?

    thanks in advance!

There were some switchable ECUs produced by s2central.net, amongst others. Might be worth PMing him the registration or previous owner's name and see if it's been pimped

cool, that's interesting, who is it I would PM? Paul Nugent is it?

any idea as to how the switchable ecu's work, I'm convinced the flick switches were for the chip..

The switchable chips were circa 2009.

Trace the wiring of the switches, make pictures.

I did try flicking the switch and no change any time I switched it. I didn't even bother to take the switch out to see if wires were attached but I'm going to now and if there are I'm gonna follow them. I have had the car 3-4 years now and never been that bothered but I'm now curious so gonna start killing the cat so to speak!

Weather permitting, see what the score is, is the disconnection of the n75 common with this type of chip? To allow more boost, was only giving mechanical boost with switches disconnected?!

If it's dry tomorrow going to try tracing back, just a paIn in the ****, stripping glovebox, understeering etc etc..

Previous owner to me advised car is chipped, I didn't ask about switches, I think owner has either emigrated or on one loong vacation (international dial tone)

Anyone else got these switches? They don't look factory.. Christophski, please be sure to update if you get your hands dirty/ find out what the switch does?!

                      Thanks for help all

Switches or not, the best way to confirm 100% the ECU is chipped is to remove it and open it up and see what is there.

Here is one link to a Motronic ECU opening procedure:

Here is an opened Motronic ECU showing, in this case, MRC boost (Lader) and fuel/timing (Motor) chips:

                        94 UrS4 V8 6 spd manual avant

Urs4 you are 100% right and your post is as you helped me in the past spot on and very informative! If the ecu was easier accessible, then perfect.. I'd be on it straight away! However, This requires the time and effort that only select ppl (like christophski) have, hence we shall to see his findings 

Haha, I wouldnt say I have patience and my time is somewhat stretched as my bloomin van has gone back into limp mode so im going to have to try fix that afirst before I mess around with the Audi. I must be able to have 1 car working at all times hence leaving the audi alone until the van is sorted out. Hopefully I know what the van is and can fix it next week. (Maybe not so lucky though?)

If you're not comfortable with opening the ECU, another quick giveaway is the boost - connect a boost gauge and do a 3rd gear run. Stock ABY will be about 1 Bar in the mid range, chipped will be maybe 1.3-1.5 depending on tuner.
