Does anyone have 1st hand experience or know of 4,2 power up projects? Patient is -97 ABZ. And this without forced induction.
4.2 V8 tuning

I used to have a 4.2 V8 S4 B6 - tuning was very limited... I went down the route of Miltek manifold back - no cats or precats, non resonated back box (yes it was f*cking loud!), MRC Map, Airfilter and that was about it.
JHM Motorsports stateside do an inlet manifold upgrade, but gains are minimal, a CAI is expensive and not of huge returns. You could get the head flowed, but again, minimal gains in relation to cost.
Best bang is with a PES Supercharger kit, good for 100bhp increase and bags of torque, but it really aint cheap, so much so that you'd be better off getting a RS4 V8 donor or an RS6 donor.
part of the reason I got rid of it was the frustrating lack of response the car had to tuning!
that said, it was a very flexible, pokey motor as stock... -
APR seems to produce exhaust system, carbonio intake and chip for that engine. Total gains don't seem that much indeed.
For B8 S5 there are more options:

But I don't know how accurate those numbers and differences are.
Yep and propably best option for B6 S4. But that G4 setup is for 5V heads, ABZ has 32 valves so it isn't suitable.Best bang is with a PES Supercharger kit, good for 100bhp increase and bags of torque, but it really aint cheap
Both good ideas but are out because of local laws. S8 engines as well as A8 d2 W12 420bhp engine are possible options. Last one of those is also very rare.so much so that you'd be better off getting a RS4 V8 donor or an RS6 donor.
Understandable.part of the reason I got rid of it was the frustrating lack of response the car had to tuning!
I actually don't look that massive difference to stock and therefore I can at least consider NA way. With +150-200bhp needs would automatically require forced induction in some way.that said, it was a very flexible, pokey motor as stock...
Pre-facelift S8 engine has 340bhp. Differences to ABZ are intake cam (exhaust cam is the same), slightly different intake manifold, slightly higher compression ratio, different exhaust system, larger injectors and therefore higher RPM limit (7000rpm vs ABZ 6500rpm).
For being a succesful and considerable option I'd need to gain more than this and propably more than facelift S8 engine (with 360bhp). Smaller gains make project more useless and there isn't really that much point to it since I can use the money for different car.
Catcams have these camsets for that engine:
Don't know about standard ABZ cams so I can't directly compare. I'd guess even the most modest option is an upgrade to standard and that's 218/218 degrees with 10,55mm lift and 0,7mm lift at TDC. Roughest non-rally cams are 235/235 degree 11,5mm lift and 2,10/1,85mm lift at TDC.Comment

Basically that would work but I don't see it that practical way since it's also useful while NOS is on and what I know there has been severe transmission slipping problems at least with RS6 using NOS. Torque boosts too fast too much etc.Comment

and then back to basic; how many series of the block are there; 88-93 in audi 200; those arent reboreable; but whitch year come the new alusilblock; rebore posibly; to the year???
and what parts can you get in aftermarked; for the tuning and so on; any who knows about that??Comment

Handy. But is that like 2-10 second turbolag in NA engine? Situation where you might need more power is over before progressive controllers gives all it has.you can get progressive NOS controllers though

Don't know mate, I used to have NOS on a N/A supra running 75 jets and no issues, but that was rear drive. Maybe find a NOS forum somewhere if that is a possible route for you? I have heard people running controllers with no issues.
Failing that, how about a race logic system or LSD to help cope?Comment
