I will need to let Michael answer that properly.

We will try the fuse, thanks (if that works what does this implicate?)

Another thing, the battery has been relocated to the boot.

Sorry for lots of random info, just trying to list anything different from the norm incase it means something to anybody.

      Fuse info here http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showpos...9&postcount=18

The more info you can add the better so we can get a picture of whats going on. Diagnosis is so much easier when you can see / hear it for yourself.

        Thanks for all the suggestions,

I haven't driven the car far due to not really trusting it so have only really noticed a bit of hesitation before revs rise, smell of fuel, revs slow to fall back and it uses lots of fuel. Engine seems smooth enough doesn't cough and fart when driving, just slow and thirsty.

Starting seems to be the main issue though but hopefully any poor running is connected to the poor starting problem.

Fitted standard breather setup instead of the catch tank today and Cleaned electrical contacts.

Car started first turn of the key. Not getting my hopes up though.

I will try and get it for a run tomorrow and see how it goes.

Have you checked for store error codes? If it's the early ecu (2 connectors) you can check for codes using a simple blink tester (led & online resister) vag com will work with the later ecu (4 connectors)

I suspect a combination of issues , not limited to vacuum leaks...have you checked the g62 ecu coolant temperature sensor & the connection to the ecu?

Since this is a conversion, there is always risk of a broken lead to one of the sensors.

As others have said, check the basics... Can you check the coil & wire for a strong spark.?

I've currently got a few 7a vehicles in the driveway, and have owned the type close to 18 years, so ask away...but after the basics like engine timing, obvious vacuum leaks, and good spark, it's time to check for codes...

Thanks, I've just went out and done the G62.

I found this and thought it was an easy thing to change before my tea - http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/20985.phtml

I disconnected the battery for 10 mins whilst I was fitting the new g62 sensor. I'd swear it fired up easier from cold. I let it get up to full temperature then turned it off and tried a restart, it fired first time ! It done this a few times so I left it and went in to eat.

It was reluctant to start when I came back out but did eventually even without me touching the pedal.

Still having the starter jamming type scenario and it's not helping.

just to be clear, on my 7A coupe, I tested the G62 sensor after I pulled it and it was in spec....but I received an error code that the connection was an open or short. Sure enough on closer examination the sensor connector harness was broken internally. I replaced it with a used one.

Not to say that this is the same case for you, but I would test the sensor...

I'll check the connector tomorrow. Thanks.

I meant to say earlier that once the car warmed up it still had the same delay in the throttle it doesn't have when it's cold or before full operating temperature.

Does the temp sensor that triggers the fan tie into anything else?

Got a shot of a wee Gunsons code reader from Andy10v.

                      I got -

                      1231 vehicle speed sensor

                      2123 throttle position sensor, full

                      2312 coolant temp sensor

                      I also got 1212 and 3121 ?

I can't find these codes mentioned anywhere so I'm assuming I've misread the blinking LED.

I pulled the codes with just the ignition switched on, not with the engine running.

                        I was reading this http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/20986.phtml

And found this - You will get a code on the engine speed sensor as failed if you retrieve the codes with the engine off, i.e. false positive.

I hope that's right and I can rule that one out.

Different speed sensor fitted. The one on the car was split about halfway and showing showing cable.

Different throttle switch fitted. Old one did look a bit toasted when removed.

Tested the g62 I'd fitted. I'ts fine. Fitted new connection to wiring as old one wasn't too clever.

Pulled big wiring plug from ecu and found a few bare wires so tidied that up a bit.

I found a vacuum hose down beside the ecu. Was this from the v6 ecu and the 7a ecu doesn't need it or should it be plugged in somewhere ?

I'm away out for a wee run and will try for codes (with the engine running) when I'm back. Fngers crossed.

no vacuum hose connection required for 7a ECU...
But you might want to consider plugging the line unless you also know that the other end is disconnected...

                              Thanks Peter

I'll bung it for now just in case.

I'm only getting 1 code tonight.
