    VGT Turbo Applicatiom ?!?

Interesting, wonder if anyone will be installing one of these on a 20V ?

Billman didn't control the actuator though.

I work with these on a daily basis. CTT (Holset) rules when it comes to VGT mechanism.
Garrett doesn't even try anymore to make it work for heavy/light duty vehicles. They simply can't figure it out

Biggest downside is the weight. The HE431 for instance has the HX40 turbine rotor size, but due to the entire mechanism weighs up to 25kg's
Upside: You can make boost at any operating point, control turbine pressure & temp by simply moving the slots.
It has been developed / made durable for diesel exhaust temps ~800deg max/700 continuous. Don't see this getting usable for Otto unless you run alcohol based types of fuel.

Found it interesting that a new stepper motor had been fitted with programmable control board in replace of the Holset unit via the link above. Would be good to have boost lower down the rev range through to top end..

well folks.... after my episode with the 86 zermatt car from NC with the paint issues and whatnot, and then my issue with not being able to stop for blazers in front of me, i decided to console myself with buying the car i originally wanted before going to NC.... a very clean, very nice 4kq, a...

Would be even better to combine it with the TT-RS FSI engine.
With the current IL5 design you lack the VE to properly fill the engine down low. With the VGT you can actually 'make' your VE by stuffing it with fresh air.
Combined with the FSI direct injection you could actually make use of that excess of air, and control the combustion energy (heat release) and thereby turbine energy better.
Biggest problem: Surge. Let alone under heavy throttling.. don't even want to think about transient respons...

Yes, Porsche uses VNT (rotating vanes) and tried VFT (twin scroll with flap)
I don't think they made a lot of money on those models after all those recalls...

BMW is still using it. But is not as controllable compared to sliding nozzle design by CTT.
I think the stealer charges about €3500 for a spare one.

...Simple and works, good idea for moving the mechanism.

That is correct, think some BMW models do too.

                        BorgWarner isn't ready yet:
BorgWarner Turbo Systems currently offers turbochargers with variable turbine geometries for exhaust temperatures up to 850°C. In the future there will be turbochargers with VTGs for diesel engines with exhaust temperatures up to 900°C.

Refinement of the VTG technology for use at even higher exhaust temperatures will expand the possible range of applications to include gasoline engines.

And if 'ze germans' don't declare it ready yet, it isn't ready yet

I used 2 actuators, one for opening the vane during off boost to keep the engine cool and one during boost to hold the vane shut during spool up and open when above certain pressure. The mapping part would be the easy part with it since with vems I can use a second n75 to control the actuator. (see picture).

The was only one downside that had me remove the HE351VE:

It was massive for the b4 platform with the Mtm exhaust manifold.

The is a control unit the dodge guys use that controls the stock holset stepper motor but I don't think it's necessary on gas (+there was no room for it).
                          Go Holset or Go RS4
