Intake on Turbo what is the cone plate for?

Looking into the intake on the compressor there is a metal cone plate held in by a circlip, what is this for ? Some have it and some don't ?

Hehe, that looks like mine turbo.

What I know, the metal bulkhead on the anti-surge frame is a silencer. It silence the noise and whine from the turbo. Seems to be on the new HX40S models...

It is silencer. Been used by holset since many years. It has a gap on the side so the anti surge effect is always present.

Just wondered to take it out or leave it in on a HX35 or go for a VGT Turbo on the 034 manifold, eitherway VEMS is looking good. Lots of questions lately sorry.
