Cheers for that, just seems a very small valve for controlling oil flow to the head and its position made me suspicious that it may just be for the sensor

Yes, it's definitely a small valve, only 3-4mm. Just removed two of these from two different blocks. Should this valve be torqued tight in its place? The funny thing is that both of them was loose, you could easily unscrew them with your fingers, without a socket ratchet.

I have no idea if this should be tightened, still very uncertain that such a small valve can control the flow of oil to the head

Quit dithering. Remove the old one. Clean out the area it was seated in, e.g. cotton cloth on a bamboo souvaki skewer (remove meat first) and then run the new one in. Start it on the end of the triple square bit by hand and then finish with a rachet until tight. Probably 15 Nm (11 lb ft) if you are a_n_a_l.

Its a five minute job but takes an hour of swearing and skinned knuckles on an S2 to get at due to the radiator

I would also be tempted to swap out the oil pressure sender while you have it off, seen old ones give wrong readings so i dont really trust them. Especially when relying on them for trouble shooting.
