    CQ20V: Chip options?

    Any BTDT's with a 7A?

I've been looking at the TAP chip and a few on ebay, anybody any experiences with them?

    TIA,

    Mark.

My old 90 20V(non quattro) was chipped by someone - don't know who - but it gave very healthy figures - it was seemingly RRd at 197bhp (IIRC - if not more) It still felt sluggish until 3500 and then had a big kick (or what I thought was big at the time) - I liked it.

3 mates had previously owned it before me and another owns it now - something must have been right with it!

Very interesting, everybody says the average is approx 15hp gain from what I have been told, mainly due to more aggressive ignition timing low end / mid range. Would love to know what was put into yours out of curiosity.

I have also been told around 200hp is possible with exhaust, intake, and a little TLC. Yours must have been running as sweet as a nut!

The only "real" option I found so far is the Total Audi Performance chip, but didn’t the US cars have less power out of the box to start with?? ...I’m a little dubious to say the least....

      Thanks,

      Mark.

I still have the original chip sitting here - maybe Mihnea can have a look at it and do something for you.

I will ask the previous owner wher ehe got the chip from.

Doug - I would also be mighty interested in the contents of that chip... Just pure curiousity to compare with stock one... My 1st quattro had the lovely 7A engine. I have heard it is hard to tune *much* more top end power out of the engine as the stock chips are reasonably aggressive (unlike the factory S2 programming which is very conservative).

yep, the american spec 20vcq had 164bhp, think it was something to do with emissions.

Doug, I do have the 7A chips (there's several variants of them), however, as they are not motronic (they're Hitachi), they don't share the same logic behind them as motronic chips.

However, send it to me (or get your *** moving and get that burner so you can read it) and I'll see what can be done...

@Doug, I would love a copy if it can be done? Was your car post-1990 as they are different. 2 plug vs. 4 plug ecu.

@Mihnea - I can send you my original ECU if you are interested in doing it?

The chip is soldered onto the board; I could do it myself but would rather get somebody who knew what they are doing to do the solder work for me. I bought a spare ecu so I have no problem sending it away...

Note, mine is a late 91 build, four plug ECU, 266D part number.

                Thanks,

                Mark.

It was a late 1990 model if I remember right - I only have the standard chip on me.

Although another mate owns the car now so I could possibly borrow the chip, if I had a reader handy. I can't say this will happen soon.

Until I obtain a substantial windfall I will have to be content with the NA 7B in my Coupe. I too would be interested in a chip to compliment the factory header, larger injectors & K&N air filter.

Or post them to me and I can cook a copy or two if Mcandmar wants to try it.

I was thinking about putting an eprom socket into the ECU so i can unplug the chips and play with different ones. I'll cover any costs of chips and postage no problem if anybody has any chips to offer...

Just my luck there is none on ebay at the moment

I should be getting a burner soon so can read the chip and I'll try and get a copy of the chipped one.
