How much you can get with 7A cams?

Ordered pair of used 7A cams, because my wallet doesn´t seems to want CAT or Schricks Engine is AAN. Just wondered how much you can get out with those, aim is to get something around 600 crank hp, impossible? Maybe little porting to the head, stock valves, stock inlet manifold, adjustable cam gear and chain gear. Better use only exthaust cam, lack of power in low revs doesn´t bother?

600hp is no problem with 7A cams. Use both for that kind of power. Some porting doesn't hurt

No need for adjustable gears IMO.
Just fit 7A cams, you will reach your target. Even on stock head. Just boost until it stops making power, and drop CR a bit. You will also need a 35R turbo.

With Catcams and good porting to make use of them, you will make much more power, but there is so much overlap down low, that the car barely idles below 1200 rpm.

And yes, your car will be a dog at low revs. But if you want to have good power from down low, the limit is around 500hp and a 30R turbo on stock cams.
Anything bigger, and just forget down low drivability and concentrate on a power band, where you need to keep the car in.

Decide what you want to do...
Rebuild the engine with strong rods? or don't touch the engine?
      Stock or aftermarket engine management?
      What kind of turbo?

I've mapped so many cars with totally different setups now, that I can probably give you pretty decent advice, if you just say what you want from the car.

But my nr1 advice is, that if you want to be anything more than a weekend toy, then the limit will be around 500hp on 2.2L displacement.
Anything more and you won't be able to reach high boost on 1st gear, and you won't be able to shift from 1st to 2nd without antilag, so that turbo stays spooled.
So unless you go with launch control and anti lag from the lights, someone with a smaller turbo will beat you until 100km/h.

These heads benefit more from port work than just fitting different cams, ideally you want a combination of both for the sort of power you mention.

NM cam's may be worth considering

Just out of interest has anyone ever tried a mixture of NM and 7A cams, either way around?

NM cams for 30R, 7A cams for 35R.
Or if you want max streetability, AAN cams for 30R make for a very nice car.

If you are getting the head ported, then select cams which will work best with the head.
All of these cams have a certain rev range they are most effective in...

But yeah, you'd be surprised how good a car with a 30R, stock cams, thick gasket and rods is. Smokes pretty much everything at the lights, and does not require launching.
Of course a stroker with more displacement can do the same with a 35R, but that's a lot of money.

Have you done anti lag for the motronic ecu yet?

and the custom 10.5 high lift cams for what?

Mr Peter installed them in my engine thinking to use it with a gt35 adn around 550hp
he told me " we built that engine to be used with the 550Hp evolution including 10.5 hight lift camshafts"...

Make sure you are running decent springs if using anti lag as I have seen many a bent valve from valve float because of it's use especially on 1.8t's, 2.0 FSI's and 2.7's where the stems are narrower. I'm running a stroker with a modified 30R and this has a nice power band from 4000-8000rpm and comes instantly back on full boost after gear change and can hit peak boost in first but my cam profile and head were designed for that application.

It all comes down to how much you can do yourself and how much money you have to spend.

I've got a set of NM cams to go in my 3B.

The head has had work (pro work) done years ago by Brian Rickets, not sure how much, I can say the ports look quite different to a standard head, certainly a lot more tidy.

I'm running RS2 EM, IC, Air-box and MAF, yes I know the last Three are just nice to have but I'm a bit of a perfectionist in this regard . I have a KKK hybrid Turbo with full genuine RS2 cold side, back plate the lot on a K26 centre section with my original Nothelle machined down k26 exhaust turbine crammed into a machined out K24 exhaust housing. All done by AET, who assured me it would be as good as standard RS2 unit if not slightly better with improved spool as the exhaust turbine is a mm or so smaller than standard RS2. We will see.

Anyway Dmitri, would you say NM cams are my best bet without going custom and would be a wise choice over stock?

Edit-- My car is around 1300KG's., with proper 3" down pipe and system

PS, I'd like you to map this car latter this year, I may even drive it over too you and try and take a break at the the same time if I can fit it in with you. Always wanted to visit a post Soviet country.

Jp, are you reving your stroker to 8000rpm( Stock oil pump and feeding sistem)? and it derseves to go there with your GT30?
because it seems that these turbos are ok to 7000rpm on 2.2 ...but maybe in a 2.5 could less and you would need bigger turbo to go hard to 8k?

Nm are a mild version of 7a
There are massive gains to be had from both with cam wheels Repo tuned mine and there is a major difference across the range
It comes down to what you want you can't beat stick cams or stock inlet and rs2 for street apps up to 500 maybe 550 at a push
This is because realistically how often do you drive in the higher range if you dont track the car?

do you need an adjustable cam pulley like the dhalback one? or are you meaning to install adjustable cam chain?

with the 80 Compi, whem i do WOT i try to rev it to 7400rpm in every gear ,i have not a stroker like you

i have never tracked the car but believe me....it is very addictive in open roads....and the noise of the car is surelly better than the performance
