    WOT vs. Aircon

Question for those who have distinctly more technical knowledge than me:
Does the aircon compressor (etc) cut out when you really stand on the right pedal (WOT)?
    Cheers,
    Ck.

Well at least not on my 3B, ABY system maybe different.

RS2 with Climate control may do that too

Didn't think any UK cars had climate. I doubt it would disengage on ours anyway. Mine didn't disengage at WOT ('95 ABY).

Throw it in the bin! I did.

Never though they had climate. I stand corrected.

You can only use aircon for for a few days of the year here. If I was in a hot country I'd have kept it but it's not worth it. Save mass, increase power slightly.

Just took all the Aircon out, im with Lee it gets in the effing way when there is no room anyway, plus it will be going on Ebay maybe some money towards the spiralling rebuild

Does not seem to disengage on my 3B automatic climate neighter. I think I have read somewhere that it should but dunno why it does not. Both the ECU and the climate unit have the capability. Why would it be left unused?

I know that the Audi docs state the aircon should disengage at WOT with the all the S2 family engines - 3B/ABY/ADU.

Can't honestly say I have tested it on my a/c equipped ABY, but it *should* work.

Now it may all be moot as the a/c fitted to RHD 3B cars is different to the normal factory spec - so maybe thats the reason.

The aircon only gets disengaged at WOT in 1st gear so the car doesn't stumble when you get moving from a stop...

Hmmm, I dunno, the wiring is done so for all the cars and the ECUs don't use different codings between euro and UK cars, so I'd say it must be on all of them...

Lemme find those docs I had on the 200q20v where that was explained and I'll post the translation here...

Don't just use it for when its hot. Switch it on when its raining and the car won't steam up! It'll help demist your windows on cold winters mornings as well.

I've tested using the climate diagnostic screen that shows if the compressor runs or not.

Mihnea, errm what? AFAIK there is no sender of what gear is selected except for reverse of course.

And an OT notice to all who have A/C. Remember that the system should be run every now and then also in winter seasons. This is for lubrication and preventing corrosion etc. You need to do it in a warm garage (+5C and up). Compressor wont start in colder conditions.

Aye Porkkis, but there is a VSS signal into the ECU - which coupled with RPM info *could* be used to derive gearing. Dunno if it does it that way or uses some other trick to work out selected gear.
