  • Doh! Not ANOTHER MAF related question!?!

Hi there, just bought some Isopropyl Alcohol to soak the ilusive MAF in (hopefully sort my funny idle out), could anyone tell me where it's found, I know that there are many other threads on this subject, but none that cover my coupe as its only a baby 16v (not suprising as its an S2 forum I know , but still saving for my extra 4 valves, turbo and quattro system...! (soon come )

Anyway just had a quick look at what I presumed to be the MAF, circled in red on the image, and it sprayed fuel at me (Anyone with more than basic mechanical skills please feel free to laugh now...!!)

So i'd be very appreciative if someone could help me out please.

    Thanks

    You Don't Have A MAF!

    Hi!,

The simple answer is you don't have a MAF. It looks like you have K-Jetronic. The systems are entirely different. One is electronic (Motronic), the other is mechanical (K-Jetronic).
The reason you got sprayed with fuel is that the thing you removed is under pressure from the fuel system. This is potentially hazardous. I don't think the answer to your problem lies there necessarily.
I would start with a Haynes manual for your particular car/engine. Read it through and become familar with the terms people are using. Other then that use a search engine and type K-Jetronic. That might give you a better insight.
    Good Luck!

Hey, thats the 9A engine code. Its actually KE- Motronic, buy still uses the jetronic mechanical fuel injection system. This is a very specialist system and its a complex one to understand. If you are getting bad idle, I would check the throttle position sensor and also Lambda.

We fitted this system into a Mk2 Golf and i learnt one hell of a lot from it. Try pulling fault codes from the ECU. Watch out when undoing things on the metering head, the fuel pressure is 6.2bar!! That device you indicated controls the fuel pressure top and bottom on the diagphram. Its a very precise peice of kit. If you cant get any where with it, then i would recommend going to a local Bosch agent, you need pressure testing kit for these systems.
