My 10min DIY for fitting MKV coilpacks into a 3B valvecover

This was a quick writeup to show what is needed to fit the 2.5l coilpacks in a 3B valvecover. The MKVI 2.0TSI 06H905115 coilpacks just dont fit.
Also these newer taller coil packs are higher voltage and the 1.8t guys are opening up their plug gaps to .040 with no detonation!

x5 07K998715F - black VW 2.5 coilpacks. 06E905115 MKV 2.0TFSI for the red ones. the coil bodies look the same, but dont have one to try yet.

    - Cut the 1" tall rubber seal ring off the tops.
    - Grind down the plastic lip that now exposed from under the rubber.
    - You will also need to grind off the plastic centering 'key'.
    - Install
    - Done

Even with all this trimming done it is still a snug fit. I do not plan on adding any kind of coil brackets to hold the coils down. I also used the valve cover studs for coils 2nd ground

    how i did it

Thanks for the writeup, good quality pictures always help

This is getting really popular now, it looks like most people are moving to the later VAG coils rather than the original and expensive S2 units. Interesting what you say about higher output on the latest coils, is there any technical evidence to back this up? Spec sheets for the coils etc?
