Marco - I see what you mean - it looks as if some of the sharp edges have been eaten(smoothly) away?

I will have a close look tomorrow. I don't really want to take the pistons out, It was dark when I took the head off and I never looked at the bores - but the pics they look really shiney - no signs of the honing - is that correct? I did the "drive it hard witin 20 minutes of the car starting" method for bedding in the rings.

Mark - I hope I don't put the AAN inlet manifold on and start getting the lean problems in 1 and 5 - I couldn't face taking the head off again!

Yeah a similar thought has crossed my mind about putting it back on, but looking at my combustions chambers they are all similar in appearance...a little sooty if anything.

I know its a PITA but if your pistons have been 'eroded' away a little on that sharp edge it would be a good idea to 'future proof' them by filing the edges away.

          I understand perfectly, Mark.....

          @ Doug,

while there, take the sump off and get the pisotns out. I would.

          @ Dave,

I'm finishing my house too. If we where neighbours we could have done a lot of fun stuff together....

don't want to hijack Doug's therad so I'll be short:

I was a little concerned about conrod lenght I requested to Pauter, because what I heard afterwards from other sources wasn't same as mine. But today I measured the deck height and it is perfect ... so my measurements where right (piston +0.02 mm over block deck):

With AAT 95.5mm stroke block (same as AEL), OEM 3B-ABY-ADU piston's compression height,
then conrod lenght = 155.8mm (I took into account a 0.1mm skimming off the cylinders, which I actually did).

Cost for the JE set of pistons with moly+ceramic coating 1040 US$ + shipping.
            They are Ø 81.45 mm

P.S. If you guys have a little bit of patience I'll soon edit a detailed report of the stroker building.

How did you guys do it? Hand file or or a stone on a drill?

I used a smallish file set, mainly with a half round file.

I did it using an air tool with a sand paper cutter. Takes a bit of caution this way, though, 'cause the air tool cuts metal away really fast. finished the edges with a half round hand file.

Doug. if you have a oilstone and spray WD40 on it ( to stop clogging) you can use that, it gives a very controlled finish.

Lots of good places where to build houses around here. Std door height is 210 cm, so you should fit.....

                          Go here:

half way down there are 2 pictures of Marks pistons - it is filing down the sharp edge so youu have a flat edge that is about 2mm thick.

I hope it doesn't perform like before - it will perform a lot better this time - lots more advance (lower CR) and more lower down torque (changing turbo coldside).

Marco, here is a better pic of one of the combustion chambers (after a light clean up) that had the det damaged pistons, nothing wrong with this one or the other, so looks like it was just the pistons with damage after all.
