Before another thread descends into chaos...

I think that, to summarise: vent to atmosphere valve are not correct for these cars (when retaining the MAF in the OE position) but that if you want to accept that they're not correct and decide to use one, then minimising the amount of air lost in each dump is essential to minimise the negative effect on the way the car runs and also the harm and any longer term damage due to bore wash etc. that might be caused my the momentary rich running.

My GFB had 13 adjustment positions, of which the middle 9 changed the aperture hole to atmosphere (so positions 2 fully closed -11 fully open). Anything over level 4 could be felt in the form of a flat throttle response when changing gear and heard in the form of the car popping on WOT gear changes. I ran it on level 13 only once and kept it on level 3 for the rest of the time, leaving an aperture ~10% of the full size. This gave a small gain in noise and no noticeable change in throttle response. Level 13 was hilariously loud but the car felt off form, so I reverted back to my Forge 007. I'd like to try and APR R1 next, to see if they offer any improvement over the Forge at 2x the cost.

Pressure side, so that the air is metered after the point where it is lost. This is a lot of effort to make the car go woosh though

Big maf is too big for pressure side... working on a Pro-M solution for a 3" tube pressure side.

Wait.... are you referring to the real dump valve, or the fake sounding one?

Thanks to all who contributed with useful knowledge to the thread. I have made up my mind and decided to stay away from blowoff valves for now. Losing some boost while shifting as prj pointed out is not much of a concern for me but messing up with the MAF's readings is.

LunarWolf, I was talking about the Sabre BOV imitation.

You won't lose any more boost with an atmospheric BOV than with a recirculating one.
At least from testing I could not see any difference at all. The only thing there is, is the MAF reading really...

                          Deception,

Whilst I appreciate that you have, following the previous replies posted in this thread, decided against fitting a bov to atmosphere, apart from the idea of it allowing possible bore washing, which is foolhardy, I feel you may have bought the wrong car.

To own a 1996 C4 ANN in S6 Avant format is to own a discrete, civilised, and refined car which is also very spritely from the factory, and even more so when just chipped.

To most of the contributors on here, the idea of fitting a bov to atmosphere is a complete anathema.

If you believe you need to have people look at your car and and the driver, and to be suitable impressed by the noise your car makes when you change gear, is the reason why I feel you may have bought the wrong car.

Your S6 is the complete opposite style of car to what appears to suit you.

A change of heart, or a change of car are your only two realstic options, if you are not to be banned from here.

Having said that, it is always good to ask on here in advance to elicit feedback, as none of us are perfect, least of all myself.

                          HTH.

                          Best wishes.

btw, any photos of your S6 ?

Hi. I bought the car because here in Bulgaria it's very difficult to buy an S2, let alone an RS2. I've never even seen an RS2 in my life…
I bought the car because I wanted a reliable and strong engine which is hard to find nowadays. At first, I wanted to buy an S3 and use it as a project car but later on gave up on the idea because it's small and wouldn't do the job for me.
My S6 is nothing to write home about. It actually needs some work - paint, exterior appearance, etc. but the matter of fact is that I enjoy it.
I intend to restore its previous glory and unleash its true potential

                            Cheers!

                              Deception,

I see your most recent post on this thread and note your comments. It’s very easy for some of us to be critical, and take the high moral ground.

Don’t be concerned that a urS6 is somehow a second choice to an S2. I have both cars and it isn’t.

Obviously you picked the wrong item to ask about on a non ricer forum. No doubt future queries you have in relation to your urS6 will be met with a more “helpful” range of answers.

Kind regards and best wishes for continued enjoyment of your urS6.

You will not loose boost pressure but you will loose response in the turbo spool with a atmospheric one...
