    HX40 is like saying K27.

HX40 is a FAMILY of turbos, there are various options and sizes.

And a turbo does not make any horsepower, it just blows air.
Your engine makes the horsepower, or more specifically how much fuel you can combust and how efficient you are doing that.

So your question is ... pointless, sorry.
At least as long as you don't describe what kind of engine you are running it on, what fuel you are using, etc.

Only pointless thing here was PRJ's response.

Instead of being a wiseass, you can say

Highest I have seen 680hp/780Nm with super40 and #16 turbine, on pump gas.

Typically both, older hx40 and super40 are able to produce 600-700 hp, with 650-700nm torque.

If you don't change cams and / or cam timing, usually hp=tq, and on same revs.

And do not get fooled by big numbers, hx's have heavy shaft, so response from cruise to first full chat is slllooowww if compared to garrett bb's of same size.
Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspirated

And I have seen over 600 at wheels, so?
That doesn't help if the OP does not say what kind of supporting hardware he has.

To get anywhere close to those numbers requires altering cam setup, and meth injection or higher octane fuel, not to mention severely dropping CR.

Run of the mill standard engine won't even break 600hp. Probably will hit a brick wall at 550hp or so.

One thing we can agree on though - full boost will not be seen until 3rd gear. 35R feels much faster.

No need to touch the pistons, the stock ones work fine even at 700hp.
Unless of course you want to use compression lowering pistons.

Two Bosch 044 pumps will only be needed if you are running E85.
On gas, one pump with relay is OK for 600hp.

Depends how well your engine breathes and the limit of your components.
The turbo itself can do more than 3 bar easily.

i was jsut curious, im running a holset super 40, 19cm housing divinded manifold/housing into a 4" dp to 3.5" exhaust

                      in a 24v 2.8L VR6 motor in my CQ

im jsut acquiring as much different setup info for this turbo as i can

Lots of people run these on drag racing projects in Finland and the Baltic area...
Plenty of setups to look at, but in the end, how much it makes depends on a lot of factors.

There can be easily a 150hp difference between a well developed motor on 110+ octane and a fairly stock motor on pump gas.
I guess what I am trying to say is that the turbo is getting big enough that without some degree of modification work you won't be able to max it out on an I5. Meaning you will hit a barrier where upping boost won't make power anymore, even though the turbo is capable of it.

Never tuned a 2.8 VR6 in my entire life, so I can't comment on that.

                          yeah understood

im working it on a 24v 2.8L the head has been significantly ported, tubular/divided equal length ex mani, large custom intake mani, 80mm tb, 800hp ic core, flow shouldnt be an issue

You will see when mapping if it's an issue or not...
If you manage to max out the turbo so that it starts to blow hot air and you keep making more power all the way to that point, then you are doing well.

It should be a bit easier than on a 2.2T due to the increase in displacement.

yeah once we get to road tunign itll be much more obvious, if i can make turbno blow hot air then i am alredy making lots of pwer.

yeah the extra 0.6L of displacement and an extra exhaust pulse shuld help to spin it up nicely
