    Audi 80 b4 s2 questions

    Hey guys!

Sorry if this have been asked alot but i couldnt find anything on my specific question so im asking here instead.

Im planning my next project now and it is the s2 sedan with b4 quattro body. I've read that you can buy a 2.8l v6 quattro and mount the engine there instead (but you need to weld 5cyl engine mount brackets).

The thing is, i was at a junkyard today and noticed that the 2.0l 4cyl ABK digifant engine from the b4 had exactly the same mount brackets as the 5cyl coupe! So i thought, why buy a v6 when you can buy a 4cyl and bolt the s2 engine without welding?

Does anyone know about this or am i totally in the woods?

    Regards
    Roman

I think the b4 4 cylinder quattros saloons are pretty rare, whereas the 80 v6 quattro saloons are relatively common.

Hehe, i think you're correct. We got 2 of them 4cyl for sale here.

Is it same parts when it comes to rear axle on all b4 audi's? for example, is there any difference between the v6 and 4cyl except the engine/gearbox?

        S2 has a 4.11 rear diff, the v6 is 3.89, I assume the 4cyl would be 3.89???

b4 ? what year are they... the 4 pot 81/85/89 mod did also come with 4,560..... some of the 4pot diesels did come whit the chassi fastener/ engin brackets in the chassi(89) beacuse the newer rubber for the engine also was for the diesel engines... they did some more noise in the chassi..( same brackets in vw 32b 5 pot)... you may cut these brackets of; yyou cant miss where they should bee in the car...

If you are going to change gerbox also, see that the 2.0 b4's have 75mm bearing on front side, also it cames with 4x108 setup.

ok, theese brackets will fit mostly any audi engine; petrol/ diesel... the hubs with 75mm bearing; willl be interchangable to 82mm bearing( change the lower part of the shock; to 20v 5 pot or v6 verson.. and the propshafts; ( they have bigger spline )
if you have the Quattro verson; make sure the ratio in the rear end and in the front( tranny)

When i did research my conclusion was 4 cylinder engine brackets were the same as the 5 cylinder, thats why i bought a 80 16v quattro.

there are not diff mounts; BUT there are lot of other diffs.. like the front chassi plate are diff for the v6 or 5pot.... the 5 pot will drop in, also with tranny, even the 6tr tranny...the propchafts, the brakes, and so on

no it doesn't, at least the 4 pot B3's Ive seen have the mounts on the subframe not the chassis.

Thx for all the answers guys! it cleared up some things

I was planning to use eather ABY or AAN engine with 6tr tranny. Quattrostyle is correct, the b3 4 pot have the mounts on the subframe, same as B2 audi 80

This may be a dumb question but whats the difference between different ratios on the rear axle? is it if the ratio is 3.89 then the wheels doesnt spin as much a 4.11?

So mounts to subframe... Guess weld mounts to chassis??? Or would the s4 c4 mounts be good enough. Remember reading about needing 90q mounts
