I doubt the engine rebuild is the only thing thats need work on the car...., rs2's are lovely cars to own but rs2's are cars that you can always work on and if your handy yourself you can reliable drive them as a daily. you cant test drive the car so thats a bit risky, you will probally have to take someone with you that knows a lot of old audi's. its a special car and parts are hard to come by. if you need to go to a garage for everything they will become expensive pretty quick to keep on the road. would you like to use it as a daily? if so i would go for a running one that hasn't stood still for a while.

If you are afraid of rust you should buy an old suzuki samurai and restore it.That is rust
Rust can apear even in small places(my 100 c4 v6 had an old front wing repair on a 10cm spot and rust is there) but that does not mean car is not good...

Too bad. The cheapest solution would have been to find a good used AAN from an UrS4/S6 and swap that in, transferring the ADU externals to the AAN and leaving the water pump and bearings alone (lots of 380 hp AANs running around with AAN bearings without a problem). AANs are more plentiful than ABYs (which are more plentiful than the ADU).
