    3b seized oil drain plug

I tried to drain engine oil from 3B and found out that I couldn't get the drain plug to unscrew. Some previous owner had tighten it way too tight. Or is it common problem that it will seize over time?

It also seemed that there has been problems before since I could see marks that hammer and screwdriver has been used to open it. Now even that wouldn't help and the bolt head is all mushed and socket cannot be used anymore.

I'm little worried that if I try more force I'll damage the oil pan itself. Next step would be to buy those sockets that are meant to open damaged nuts and hammer one over the drain plug.

Has anyone done new drain hole in the pan?

They do become tight. Used a socket and 1/2 inch breaker bar on mine.

Make sure its a 6 sided socket.

Ok, good to know that they become tight. I used 6 sided socket, but I think some previous owner had already damaged it. So I'll replace it once I get it open.

        What is stilsons?

I had similar pliers that tighten more you push, but the place was bit awkward so I couldn't get enough force.

With socket I can use longer extension.

Or maybe I should go to the gym.

ba careful hammering anything onto it, you could crack the sump.
I would weld a socket onto it

I wasn't sure if the plug was something you can weld on, but if it's steel then that's pretty much solves the case. I think I'll weld socket or nut to old plug and try to open it that way.

I had to weld a spanner onto mine before it would come off. 6 point socket just rounded the head.

Good to know that I'm not the only one having troubles opening the plug.

I bought new socket and I'm going to weld it in to plug. I'm thinking of leaving it there for the next time when changing oil.

It's copper, but lets not worry about a bit of zinc.
They generally get overtightened, this is the problem, all the ones ive worked on were very hard to undo and they all the had the washer in place.

BTDT, don't tighten the new one too hard. Don't remember the torque figure right now. Think the seizing up has something to do with the different metals "galvanizing" together or something??
