All I can say is be carefull with going for an absolutely massive turbo.
If you are comparing with more modern cars you may not appreciate what kind of lag you may encounter.
Having a good spread of torque and not just peak power will be important too.
I went for 450bhp with drivability, a bigger turbo would allow much higher peak power with the same internals.
If you can afford it then you may want to consider going down the stroker route too, this is perhaps my only regret from my build; http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39691
