    Coil Packs - German & Swedish £75 + Vat

Ive been having a niggle with my aby last few weeks that from searching around the forum points to the 20 year old coilpacks playing up. Shes holding back on WOT when boost is getting strong.

Went to local audi dealership and they quoted £158 each for the 034 905 105, but said the number was superceded by 034 905 101 and German and swedish do them for £75 + VAT GSF no 925VG0290 part no 92547

I didnt think German and swedish sold them but ordered one and picked it up today and on first sight it looks like an original part (Beru part no. 0 040 100 043)

Parts guy said he might be able to organise a discount with a larger quantity ordered, will keep you posted how i get on with it

Awesome work... I'd be tempted, mine were replaced in 2006 / 40k miles ago but I think a spare set wouldnt be a bad idea!

AFAIK the ones on my car have never been replaced, 18 years old and 100k miles.
Still going strong too, fingers crossed. What are the symptoms when they play up?

Just ordered 2 more today, will fit all 3 over the weekend. Any pointers as to which ones are favourite to have failed first or do i just have 3/5 of a chance of replacing the faulty coil lol?

Im guessing the middle 3 coils get to see most of the heat and fail first

The wiring is fun. The stuff under the cover will be cracked and knackered for sure so worth repairing any really bad bits while you're in there.

I did all that last weekend, replaced with new wiring as far as i could to see if that fixed the problem....but didnt

its funny what 20 years of heat cycles does to wire and insulation...best way to describe it is like un cooked spaghetti...try and bend it and it snaps in one.

                      Good find

The wiring design is flawed in my opinion that is why I went down the 034 route(although at £75 a coil I'm regretting it a little now). If I where to go back to OEM coils I would go with a custom coil cover or mod the original to get rid of the heat or run the wiring on the outside somehow.

The original design puts pvc insulated cables in an oven effectively, I bet temps get above 200C under there. PVC starts to degrade rapidly at temps of above 90C.

                      cheers

As a test i put some 130 degree rated tape in there when i was trying out the wiring and it didnt enjoy the heat under there....so i think your right..if circulating oil and water are around the boiling 90-100 degree mark then i guess metal working area around the plug is seeing well above this....god knows what it gets too on a track session. My Aby oil temps hit 130 at castle combe a few years ago.

                          Silly design.

I'm assuming my wiring was original and it was shocking (excuse the pun) as soon as you touched it, it turned to dust.

You could make the situation slightly better and fit some heat resistant sleeving over the cables. Forget the name of it now but you get a small length of it with house hold wall light fittings

its only rated to 130 deg c but i guess its better than nothing.

What do you expect, getting heat cycled for 15+ years
I wonder what state 034 coils will be in after the same length of time..if they even last that long.
