I wired it, no3 on each coil pack is the wire that goes back to the ecu. Coil packs 1 & 2 which are wired to my ecu plug pins 1&2 work ok when firing via vems outputs in test mode. 3,,4,,5 don't fire and are wired to pins 23,,20,,21.

This really sounds to me like a wiring issue... otherwise I would have thought 1 & 2 wouldn't fire either...

Can you buzz the loom through just to rule it out, that each pin at the coil end really goes where you think it does at the ECU end? It would deffo rule it out...

ok i've just gone outside and cranked it over and all coils are firing a spark in the correct order as per the attached image. I've set the output on so my fuel pump runs all the time and cranked it over, still nothing!

I've a used 7a fuel regulator, maybe next step is to pull the rail and injectors up and see if they're squirting fuel ??

This is starting to annoy me now !!!

just squirt some wd40 up the inlet track while cranking this should make it run if its a fuel issue,(engine will run on the wd40 instead of fuel)

thanks I'll try that, totally got me stuck now as can't understand what the problem is unless its timing! Coils fire in correct sequence via setting outputs on in VEMS.

Why are you running firmware 1.1.97? downgrade to 1.1.95

1.1.97 isn't released and 1.1.96 had a cam sync issue which affecting starting the car

I would change your fuel pump values to sane figures

pump on for 1.0 sec and pump off for 0.5 sec you don't need it higher

You have a lot of ignition in the low bins, 18.75 at 500 & 1000 under 76 kpa suggest trying 10-15 to start with

none of these should stop it starting but I would seriously use 1.1.95 as a base 1st get off 1.1.97

if the rev counter doesnt move the the engine is not seeing crank trigger..ie its not counting the revolutions...as i posted before crank sensor issue??
try 1.1.95not the 1.1.97 your using

trigger log and my rev counter does move, firmware is 1.1.95

WD40 didn't do anything, not even a cough. surely this must be a timing problem. I'm using the original hall sensor fitted to the 3b distributor.

coils are fired in order D,C,B,A,4 with cylinder number 1 being D.

so firing order is 1,2,4,5,3 correct.
