hello, my a3's lost power about 4 or 5 times now, dropped down gears and foot flat to floor and nothing. took it to a garage and hooked it up to the ecu and the fault code said turbo fault. the man at the garage said it could be the turbo full of carbon or a maf sensor. any ideas to which it could be. thanks.
my 1997 a4 does that sometimes. Whilst cruising along I turn ignition of key out. Then crank her over again and everything is back to normal. Never have gotten to the bottom of it
from my experience i would agree that the turbo is at fault, can you also hear a howling sound when this power loss happens?? the wasegate sticks, you can free off using a 14mm spanner directly on the connecting rod but this is only a temp fix, and as it all comes complete youd be best buying a new turbo, a vag specialist will be able to confirm to u if this is the case..
Dimitri it is right but in my case was a masive boost leak doing that on a hose after turbo. The turbo was ok ,no vanes sticking or the wastegate valve but same thing lag of power and after 2200 rpm going safe mode . Hope thats help.
Or it could be alsorts mate. Sounds similar to my T4 and after months and lots of random codes and changes of parts its pretty much tracked down to the fuel pump at its lowest limit. Mind you yours could be completely different.
My guess is one of the many vacuum lines is leaking, easy to change them all. Also the n75 and the egr control valve that bolts to the airbox can cause issue, you will more than likely be getting overboost-positive deviation or similar as the faultcode.19765 iirc,I have fixed no end of 1.9 tdis with same issue come over last couple of years
