I remember holding my finger over the cam lobe through the filler hole on idle with the old 10v, just to see what it felt like. Things you do when you're 17 with your first Audi

ive had a cam snap under the 4th cam cap between the 2 lobes for pot 4 if we count from the frontof teh car. it ran but like poo.

a clean snap it was holding open ex valves fro cyl 5 and half of 4.

no engine damage somehow. maybe skimming the pistons helped me here. that was a 7a ex cam on mine.

Did you find any reason why it had snapped?

            Gazza,

Was there no bolts missing from the cam caps, no snapped cap holding studs or anything ?

New camshaft in and away you went ?

Can somebody give me a scheme of the sequence and position, of the parts that hold down the camshafts!?

They are numbered from one to ten!

Maybe a dumb question, but need the help!!!

Make sure that you read the numbers upright from the intake side of the engine and that you don't swap 6 and 9.
