    AAN into shallow bellhousing

    Hi all,

I'm fitting an AAN (S6) lump into my T3 Syncro 16.

The bellhousing I'm using is from a South African only van and is fairly similar to an 016 bellhousing in depth.

What flywheels (240mm) will fit inside it and take the power?

I've used an MC code flywheel before but I can't find one.

Someone has offered me a WR flywheel but I've no idea if it'll fit and he doesn't have the time to measure it or take photos for me.

    AAN flywheel/clutch swap options

I investigated the use of the South African T3 bell housing for an AAN to Vanagon swap a year ago but the cost (new) was stuuuupid.

As for the flywheel and clutch, it is common to swap 7A flywheels into AAN situations using an aftermarket "7A" style clutch (the stock 7A clutch can't handle the power). On a side note, sometimes people receive 7A clutches when they ordered AAN clutches for their stock dual mass flywheels. The end result is the total package of AAN dual mass flywheel and 7A clutch is too thick and it ends up binding on the 01E bell housing, with various degrees of disasterous results, e.g. broken bell housing.

In your case, the solution might be to use the 7A flywheel and the thinner AAN clutch pressure plate but with a 7A-style sprung clutch disk (a "hybrid" solution). That would keep your total depth thin and also provide you with a sprung clutch (the stock AAN clutch disk is unsprung because the springs for compliance during uptake and shifting are in the dual mass flywheel).

Here is some info about a 7A flywheel swap into an C4 AAN with 01E:

Here is an AAN clutch post with hyperlinks to some of the aftermarket options, including Centerforce and Southbend.

Hmmm, I'm not sure that a 7A flywheel would fit in either.

There seems to be three depths of flywheel which it comes to Audis.

Very early cars like the MC (016 gearbox), then solid flywheels but deep bellhousings like the 7A (01E), and then Dual mass flywheels which are deeper again (don't these usually involve a spacer between the gearbox and engine?).

      Thanks for the links.

No spacer for an AAN in a C4 UrS with 01E and dual mass flywheel.
