    Broken TPS ?

hello got some issues with my s2 aby and have been doing some searching and today i got my hands on the TPS.

On idle ive got ~ 600ohm, full throttle ~ 2500
And ~ 0.05 volt on idle and ~2.5 on full throttle
refering to the sjm auto page it is not good, but where is the limit ?

ive have done a visual check with a magnifying glas on the inside of the potentiometer but found nothing that i could see was out of the ordinary.

Is it broken ? is the same TPS mounted on any other audi ?

    Throttle position switch/potentiometer information

They are also used on the 12V V6s. More info including diagnostics in this diagram (click on the labels in the diagram):

Do you have vagcom? Would be interesting to see what values you are seeing there.

              hello,

ok 600ohms @ idle is too low and 2500 @ WOT is good but not enough (you have too reach about 2900/3000)
Does it comes like that or did you change or touch something around the IM ?

It wont get enough boost it wont do more than 16 psi, i should reach about 21 psi
And when you have been driving the ecu starts to shut down like it loosing some signal and dies on idle

Ok, it get more ohms on almost full open than on full, so are gonna replace the TPS. Acoording to quattroworld.com if you get less than 3600ohm on wide open its broken if i understood it right

Across Pins 2 and 3 on the switch:
                  Throttle closed = 750 to 1300 ohms
As throttle is opened from closed to WOT = increase to 3600 ohms
                  If NO, replace sensor.

BTW, 3600ohms according to sjm auto technik seems never showing up, reaching 3000ohms seems to be good

It is possible someone has misadjusted it, or the throttle cable is too long, or connected wrong.

I assume all this has been checked?

Also, this will have no effect whatsoever on ECU shutting down or not.
As for the resistance, it's dumb to measure ohms and whatever over the sensor, when you can see the value the ECU sees in VAG-COM.

Connect VAG-COM, open measuring blocks, push it to WOT, see if it's 90 degrees or above.
If it is, sensor is good, as that is the value the ECU sees. You can do this with the engine turned off.

Gotta love these mega threads about throttle position sensors. There's almost nothing they are used for in these ECU's, besides boost control and MAF-less limp mode.
Everything else is done off of the two switches.
Yet every month we have at least one TPS thread, where it's blamed on all kind of sorts of problems. Always ends up with it being replaced, and there being nada difference.

Out of all the cars I've mapped, I've never seen a single bad TPS. But I've seen loads of misadjusted cables.

Lovely answer! U are spot on about this!

Some more info: Check block 4 and the 4th row - there u can see if the idle switch is working! Also try to adjust the throttle damper before adjusting the TPS, mine was completley out of adjustment!

My TPS gives me 99,8 deg and 3100Ohm´s between pin 2 and 3..

prj: do u know how the cable should be adjusted ?

Yes, the cable have been checked. I fixed a new tps and it shows 2900 on full throttle. Yes i dont think that is my problem but i will replace it any way. And My vagcom wont do What i want :s

I adjust it so I see more than 90 deg on WOT.
Of course verify physically that the throttle valve is actually opening right.
