    Try this one : http://urs4.com/technical/repair/tim...ming_belt.html

It's for urS4's AAN-engine, so it isn't exactly the same thing, but close enough.

oh cool another post I can help out with:

          http://www.audi-quattro.org/~cuatrokoop/crank-tool.htm

Timing belt change is not that bad, but it certainly helps to have some one by who knows what there doing the first time.

It's a bit easier on the aby motor than the 7a and possibly the 3b(not sure about the 3b). But on the 7a motor you loosen the water pump to get it loose( so basically your letting out coolant) and retighten the water pump once the new belt is back on.

On the aby motor there is bracket that you do this with. so it's not necessary to mess with the coolant.

I am running a little late on time.

But If necessary I can post some pics from bently on this matter.

Actually I have a great read up on this, I will post when I get back from work( I have some cooking to go do).

          Cheers
          Josh

3b is identical to 7a procedure,
when i realised my head had to come off i thought 'you must be joking theres no way im doing that'

2 days later had engine in bits all over floor

remember its only a few nuts n bolts

This is from my aan bently cd. It's the same deal thought
This is the different part I was talking about vs the 3b motor.
Bently calls it the Tensioner. Which is basically the bracket the idle pulley is on.

                Aby/AAn:

Would be a nice upgrade on 3b motors, if not the fact that most people don't swap out timing belts alot.

That's exactly the ABY set-up. The water pump has no adjustment, it's all done on the tensioner. Nice pic's Josh

BTW. I bought the same bently manual for AAN. Dunno why but I guess they don't have a CD for 3b/aby engines.

Bently are american and they never had the s2 over there. So no point in making book.

My 3b tensioning setup is not like that AAN. You have to turn the water pump after slackening the bolts. All the old 5 pots were like that, inc. diesels. AFAIK
