    Turbo for Drift

Hi, i have a friend which is using his cq for drifting.

he had good results so far beiing in his rockie years in drifting, but he recently blew his turbo a precision 5758, IIRC , and wanted something else fast, for his engine.

So i wanted to ask this comunity about a sugestion.
Engine is stock, head has 7a cams, some ebay exhaust manifold, and DTA ECU, some suporting mods for 500+ hp (injectors, pumps, intercooler).
He wants a turbo with fast spool, and to keep the boost in higher revs (7500 - limit), horsepower is always good in drifting, so 500+ is good.
I recomanded him a gtx3076 with 0.82 housing, but i want to have second opinions from more advanced users.

Cheaper alternative is Holset X35 with 9 hotside. And for his cq doesn t realy need 500hp for drifting.I would say 350 for that weigt is enough and a small turbo for quick spool not what he used was way to big for aplication and of course the map needs to be perfect. Just my 2 penny.

        GTX3071R/0.82 I would say, not GTX3076.

It flows more, why not? only 200e euros more expensive.

It does not flow that much more, and it spools way slower.

You will already be pushing the GT30 turbine with a GTX3071, I don't think a GTX3076 has much going for it.

Even if larger, he wanted to keep the power in higher revs.

If you want more power in high revs use gtx3576
The gtx3076 is naff to much compressor flow for the turbine wheel
But gtx 3071 should be enough good spool and good power

                    Hi,

I am the owner of this audi for drift.

I'm still not cleared from the turbine must use on my engine.

someone told me it's better to use high compression piston and turbo 3582 with .63 a / r
My pistons are 8.5 compression at the moment.

                    which would be the difference between 3071 0.82 , 3582 0.63 and 3576 0.63

someone said to use a journal bearing turbo with ALS

also prefer to buy this turbine in Europe, to be easier to repair if it breaks

OT, but one pro drifter here in Finland told that you need to have great grip on drift tires. Other wise you slide to easy and too much and have no control.

makes sense indeed, but looking at the vids it seems like the car is very hard to get in a drift.
Also @ Gatebil I've seen lots of drifting quattro's and most cars there had rubbish cheap tyres mounted

Maybe that's because you're burning out 4 tyres instead of 2....would get pretty expensive!

Agree, but you can't deny they do awesome drifts on the cheap stuff, that's my point.
