So its coming up with that dialogue box listing all the reason it cannot connect?
I had trouble recently reconnecting after I had established a connection. Fortunately I was able to try the interface on another Audi to prove it all worked. It stil took several goes to connect. I did try connecting to one or other of the other modules, even though I don't think the 3b has diagnostic cabability.
You can also try with the ign off and see whether you get the no response from controller dialogue box. If you do, try again with ign/car running.
One of those reasons for no connection, the stuck K line, will most probably toast an interface!

Can you try it on another vehicle? This may help eliminate if its the car or the computer hardware/software.

Not sure how you got on. I bought a good quality USB interface and the info with it said to set the Com port to 4 not 3! I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly. This was the same for XP/Vista/W7.

Would be cool if those who have recently bought one that works well could post the link to the Ebay auction(s).
Mine works well, but was bought years ago.
The 409 type cables are all that is needed on the B4 cars. I also have a genuine cable for the B6 as the copy cables will only do the basic stuff on these.
The 409 type cables are so astonishingly cheap that everyone should own at least one. They cost £1 and the total comes to less than £5 including shipping from HK. I have no idea how they manage to make money on these things.

Here is a link (I haven't tested this one): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-cable-...item416358bd83

For B4, the 2x2 adapter is needed: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-VAG-C...item56456d24a6

BTW, I also highly recommend the following code reader. I have tested this one, and I have one of these in all my cars, as I don't always haul my laptop and Vagcom cable around. The code reader is super handy if the car starts acting up out on the road: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen...item4165d4e258
