    o2/lambda sensor

so after replacing this that and the other and wiring here and there, i decided to put a v/meter on the o2 sensor, it reads no voltage- at all. now from previous exp with an 4 pot audi. the way i tested its one was to unplug sensor place meter on volts across pins and count the crossover.. the one in s2 is dead as door nail so.. or am i missing something here.. also there is no noticable difference on startup or idle with it un plugged.

Is it throwing any codes? If the lambda is dead then it can throw a mixture adaptation code, amongst others.

i have no blink light or vag com, what i do have is a funny smelling smoking issue wich ive been chasing down. pcv renewd, boost leaks, mfts ect ect. i just checked this by chance when i spotted the meter. am i wrong in thinking, no matter whats the case, an o2 should still show voltage unless dead. gonna remove it to look at it.. if i can make a suitable socket

Even a cheap ebay cable will give you access to the codes, really worthwhile to have for a matter of £10 or equivalent. May also help with your other issue(s) but smoke is usually mechanical so perhaps not so much

i had my doubts about any ancillaries curing the smoking but as i seemed to replace things it seemed to get less and less all the time. to the point of it either smoking as per usual to just 20 mins ago idleing and revving smoke free. but i will get the lead soon. im presuming a dead lambda would cause a rich condition throughout the rev range. rich is a safer bet than lean right !! hope so.. to Otto with me wallet agian lol

also how do i reset the ecu on my s2.. these ecu's are adaptive right? curious as to what a reset would do ? even if just to check it off the list in a way

cleaned and refited old lambda with volt meter in between signal wire and it read voltage but all crazy, with no crossover to speak of. when it did do something you can hear the car idle smoother in accordance with a movement on the meter. cool to watch

                  G39 O2 (Lambda) sensor info

Might be too late but there is G39 O2 Lambda sensor info in this diagram (click on the G39 label in the upper left corner - all the other labels are hot links as well for future reference):

had a good readthrough that earlier. "O2 sensor is faulty, Like having a bunch of burnt oil on the tip" is my case.. it was caked on one side and the vents were barely open at all if any on the turbo side. it worked a little after cleaning but it was only intermittant, so new sensor. i just went through cars cost folder and see no o2 replacemnt from new. i have "every" receipt from new, even the receipt for the car forgot to mention that when i removed it under inspection the caseing of the probe had be squeezed at some stage.
