    Newer IL5 engines

Found some pics of US spec 2.5 litre motor from VW Rabbit (6A, 150hp).
A Canadian bought the motor and stripped it down for upgrades, ony 1.8k miles old.
Chain driven double cam with dual sprockets, single hydraulic adjustable.

Does show Audi learned some tricks over the years...

    Engine with loads of plastic:

    Weird alu spacer:

    Circulair exhaust ports:

    Nice inlet ports:

Top deck view showing little squish and lens shaped bowl & squirters:

    Piston with ceramic coated skirt:

Head with integrated housing for drive chain:

Close up of head showing water pocketing almost fully around combustion chamber:

    Cam timing adjuster:

Top view of head. It uses a plastic rocker cover:

    These heads use rockers:

This is the entire project thread showing what he fabbed. Guy is a welder with some skills:

It looks like the aluminium back plate is mounted to the engine, like a spacer, so any pattern can be made to fit. This pattern fits the Audi S3 transverse engines 6 speeds like the 02M's of VW.
Camshafts look like hollow ones, hydroformed to lock the lobes, Dr Schrick style.
Operation of the adjuster is oil pressure operated but electronically controlled so can be calibrated to be used at any rpm like BMW's Vanos.
If you look at the angle of the valves it is clear that they changed that as well.
I'd like to see pics of the crank & harmonic damper, enough weight to be lost there...
