    mk4 aum golf problem

Asking this for a friend as i just drove his car and im stumped.. first off no codes yet.. he is getting them pulled soon. soo... car drives fine, just cuts throttle randomly. lift foot and put back down and off ya go. nothing violant or sudden either cutting or applying power again. its almost like some one is pressing the brake and the car cuts power. vauge description but if anyone could help cheers.. funny feeling its a brake light switch fault of wire broke to it. never checked before he left.

its fly by wire btw.. and seems to only do it on the slightest of throttle oppenings, but once done the rest of the stroke of the pedal is useless (as if it was plugged out). lift off pedal and back on its good again. weird one !! no eng light. fuel econ same. performance fine when alls good. gonna have another look tommorow.

take some live readings, gently press pedal all the way down and gently let it off (engine off, ign on) look for voltage spike or drop, should be nice and linear, ideally a graph mode on live readings

could be TPS if you got access to vcds watch it on measuring blocks 0% at rest and 100% on floor. However an autoscan will tell you whats wrong.

TPS is the pedal itself. I have replaced an number of these on Mk5's where wet has got into wiring.

My son has/had the same problem on his Golf IV GTi (132kw), and there was a "brake switch" error - don't remember the exact code.
He has bought a new switch but hasn't installed it yet , but since then only had the problem once (in 2 weeks), when going over a bump on the road - go figure

yeah he was saying as i drove it it prolly wont do it now, but it did..seems to be a plausable reason but codes or getting a look at switch will confirm. sound guys
