After finally getting the remaining ancillary bolts off to allow me to remove the head I have come across a few issues.
The water-jacket seems to be filled with a lot of rusty crud which has led to some of the water lines through the head to become completely blocked, I was wondering what people’s opinions where to clean this as best as possible without making the situation worse i.e. leaving bits of crud rattling round.
Also the tops of the intake runners on the head seem to have been ground/ported but not in a particularly nice fashion, as it clips the smooth casting inside quite roughly. Is this how it would have left the factory or would it all have had its rough cast finish.
I will add more pictures of the problems when I get the head back from the machine shop for squareness checking
On another note the head gasket was completely blown between the cylinders.
