Yes, there are shorter red coil packs.

Here is my 7A cover using the taller (by 14mm) TFSI coils (with no modifications to coil pack/rubber seal).

Detail of the machined hole features.

I did the machining so as to retain all of the rubber sealing/retention features built into the coil.

When i upgraded my aan cover to the 7a style cover,i discovered that there are 2 length of coils availible,i also had to drill the coil inlets thinner in diameter to make the sit nice.
On my aan cover i used the short ones without any problems.

I will try to find numbers and diameters tomorrow.

    Cheers
    Kai
    Edit:
16,4 cm are the shorter ones
17,8 cm are the longer ones.

    06B 905 115l and 06C 905 115C both 16,4cm long für 1.8t and co.

    06C 905 115l from 3.0l

    06E 905 115D from TFSI, 17,8cm long

    06E 905 115E from 3,2FSI and co, 17,8cm long

I did the cam cover on Steve H's engine and came across the problem of it having an oil filler cap which means they cant sit as mine! I would like to know whats going on with the coils. Could somebody with the coils sitting up do some measuring and I will measure mine up and pull some part numbers to see whats going on. Pnassy also had to machine the cam cover as per mine?

Are the RS4 and 1.8T coils different?

I have these also. That was what I thought also. So we must ask Mr Hamish then how he has done it.

It appears that Hamish either has shorter red TFSI coils or a slimmer 7A cover as he had to machine the lip on the 7A cover to allow the coils to engage with the top of the plugs. Mine clip on easily and they are nowhere near the plug hole lip so I didn't machine them. I can measure the coils I have if it helps?

If you go for the shorter coils you will need to remove the lip from the top of the 7A cover. The longer coils sit higher and don't require the removal of the lip. They look sweet nice and low, but I guess heat is likely to be less of an issue if the coil section is further away from the cam cover.

Steve's setup is very neat and appears to have required a minimum of changes to the 7A cover & coils (counterbore to plug holes and removal of a rubber boot and tab).
