    Main rad fitting

    Hi all
Have a bit of a dilemma on my hands, start new job on the 8th. Have a main rad that needs replacing and my usual mechanic/friend is unable to fit as promised as his father is in hospital.

Anybody fancy making a bit of money fitting it for me? Im based in Kingston Upon Thames....

Im sure I could manage but without a step by step guide im a bit worried id be left stranded for my new job

There is a old step by step guide on here somewhere with pictures etc.

Its really not that hard and worth checking the temp sensors while your there too.
Do you have aircon? that makes is a fair bit more complicated as you need more space to move the rad and pipes out the way.

Has your car got air-con? its a bit harder if you have but you should be able to do it yourself

If the plastics have been removed previously then its an even easier job.

Yes has AC, I believe the plastics have been removed yes, to add to the confusion I also have one of those fan connector bodge jobs that need rewiring with the wires I bought from VAG

******, with aircon its tricky as the aircon rad really gets in the way.
Ill see if i can find that guide.

With the condenser in the way like mine was it's a tricky job, also one of the pipes failed as well as the connector on the condenser so I needed to replace that too..after getting a condenser then a pipe to the compressor failed botching off a piece of it with it

Whilst the rad is out change your thermostat and the short pipe under the inlet manifold

I did the one in mine recently but without A/C in the car... I can only say its got to be similar hasnt it apart from an extra rad in the way??? So if thats the case, take the top and bottom hose off (as you say all plastics are already off) and undo the fixing bolts on the side of rad (1 either side 2/3's of the way down the rad and undo the nut on the bottom of the rad that holds it into position. Take off the wire from teh temp sensor at bottom o f rad (Back side) and undo the 2 wires for the fans. Should be a case of wiggling the rad out then. Fitting is reverse of removal.... Allow a few hours I guess if the A/C rad is in the way....

I've change the main radiator a couple of times on my RS2 that has the A/C.

It's not difficult but just a matter of patience IMHO if the plastic parts are out already then it's even easier.
My mechanic changed the thermostat a couple of months ago without removing nor moving the radiator..... He's defenetely a top mechanic but.....I still wandering how he managed

When you all say plastic parts....... you mean the pipes etc?

I dont need to jack the car up do I, ive got a sprained ankle atm and dont think it would be too easy getting on floor etc.

I'm happy to pay someone if they can come and do it :/
