    94 s2 avant non starter

Im looking for a bit of help with my avant , car is only rarely used but drove it approx 10 miles today , parked up for an hour and came back , engine turns over but will not fire .
    1. fuel in car and fuel pump running .##
    2. no immobilliser circuit in use/
Got car to garage and two fault codes were read 00513 and 00515, any ideas as to what they are, have had the car for over 5 years and it never failed to start before.

00515 is the G40 (Hall Sensor)
00513 is the G28 (Speed Sensor)

I believe G28 is normal, so ignore it. G40 is your main concern.

Wait for someone else to clarify as I am no expert though

EDIT: Also more info on the G40:

I once heard that if its the hall sensor then tip a glass of water down the back of the camshaft pulley. If the car then starts then the hall sensor is your culprit...

I'm no expert either, but it does seem to indicate from your description, and your checks that it might very well be the G40, cam position sensor.

Dave, aka, urS4boy will post up some relevant links when he sees this thread.

There are two ways of dealing with this, you can buy a new G40 sensor from the dealer, or from a third party, or if your good at soldering etc. Dave's links will include a method of buying just the "active" bit of a G40 and combining it with your old one.

A case of you pays your money and takes your choice.

Myself with this, I'd buy the complete G40 unit as competitively as possible.

        HTH.

Post up the cure when you know.

        Good luck.

That is a trick that will get you out of a jamb once or twice but it isn't a permanent cure. The permanent cure is replacing the G40 Hall sender. Links to EFI expresss for the $10 Hall sender and the DIY are in this G40 Post (also posted above):

One other possibility is, that you might have had a slight timing belt slip. The engine will run normal until it stops, but wont start afterwards. BTDT.
So, i would suggest to additionally check the timing TDC top dead center.
