    RS2 leaking head gasket

Hi guys, Im after some advice please,
Ive had an oil leak from my engine for a while, first I was told it was the cam cover gasket, then the front cam seal, now my mechanic is saying its 100% the head gasket is leaking.
Im having a little trouble getting my head around the head gasket leaking rather than blown? The car isnt using any coolant, and there is no oil in the coolant.
Anyway the car just done 235,000kms when I start the car in the morning oil pressure is at 5 bar, hot idle it can get down to 1.1 bar.
My question is, I have to take the head to replace the gasket, what else shall I replace? Could a new head gasket improve compression/bar?

Nik: The head gasket is more about coolant leaking out into the oil than anything oil pressure related.

The head gaskets now are all metal. Victor Reinz is a well known brand and there is a kit with all the gaskets, at least for the AANs. Probably also the ABYs and ADUs.

A head gasket means the head off so things that I have done when the head gasket was replaced included (not necessarily in the correct order):

    1. Valve seals
    2. Valve guides
    3. Replace/re-lap the valves into their seats.
    4. Head gasket (duh)
    5. New head bolts (stretch = one time use). Some people go ARP studs
    6. Timing Belt
    7. Water pump
    8. Timing belt tensioner pulley
    9. Crank sprocket and maybe seal
    10. Cam cover gasket.
    11. Thermostat
    12. Turbo Coolant return hose
    13. Exhaust studs (and all the nuts)
    14. Turbo nuts, etc. (not really an option)
    15. Stuff I forgot.

It will cost you but it will also give you another 200K plus of no head gasket worry.

probably worth also checking the head to see if it needs a skim
you can also check bore wear while the head is off

I was going to get the Victor Reinz head set.
How many head studs do I need? Are they the same part numbers as a ABY and ANN?
Also I had a look on autohausaz.com, the Victor Reinz ones are $5.46US each and the Meyle ones are $1.75US each. Whats the difference? Meyle is a good brand as well isnt it?

autohausaz.com doesnt send head studs overseas. Isnt that a bit random? Ive sent them an email asking why this is so. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just got a (speedy) reply from autohausaz.com:

            Hi Nik,

Only our main Arizona warehouse is equipped for international shipping.
Unfortunately, these head bolts are stocked in a separate warehouse that is
only equipped for domestic shipping. We are very sorry, however we can not
ship these parts to you internationally.

Head bolt PN is 034103385C. You need 12. Same for 3B, AAN, ABY and ADU.

About US$6 at Genuine Audi Parts. I would only use OE or Victor Reinz. I would not use Meyle. Meyle does a lot of sourcing "off-shore".

Surely he could get the stock sent to that warehouse to be shipped to you. Amusing its the same company.. If so swing that idea by them. Say you pay $10 bucks for the handling to the other warehouse

Hey Dave, thanks for the offer.
Most places are charging $70US to ship to NZ.

Oh, and on a side note, the emerald green RHD S2 sold here (NZ) today.

Nik: My guy says his suppliers have stopped supplying a head gasket "kit". That said, he says he has the parts for a "kit" (head gasket, intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, cam cover gasket, water manifold gasket etc.) and that would run CDN$225. (Plus the shipping).

Note: You will also likely need the exhaust manifold studs and the nuts and bolts that hold the turbo to the EM and the downpipe.
