Most likely causes from my experience are power steering
pump or alternator, of course it's hard to be sure without hearing it
but it's easy to test, just remove power steering pump belt and see if the noise
stops. If it's still there try the alternator belt.
If it's neither of them you should get a bit more worried and look at
pulleys, cam wheel, bottom damper and cam tensioner pulley.

Does the frequency move with the engine speed.

It goes away when you rev the engine.

Filmed through a letter box? does the noise go away or do the extra revs drown it out ?

Sounds like it goes away, it sounds like a bearing to me.

Take the ancillary belt off and see if it goes away. It will rule out the alternator and power steering etc....

I have a VERY similar rattle, both before and after my recent work (timing belt including all pulleys, water pump and alternator). Mine also goes away with revs.

To me is sounds near the top forward of my engine, but after listening with a screwdriver-to-ear my mechanic friend thinks it might be the clutch/clutch bearing.

My money is on the pump, take the belt off and see,
mine does this, noise goes away when revved.
