    bottom pulley wobble

ok so later this week the engine should be coming out as i have an oil leak which i believe is coming from the rear main seal.the clutch occasionaly slips too under load so its either worn out or oil is seeping on it,either way time for a replacement.

as i have no ramp id rather do it this way so then whilst its out i can replace other bits like steering gator, bomb etc

One thing which has been on this car since when i first owned it is the wobbly bottom pulley.when the car idles you can see it moving like its egg shaped...only a little though.Rev the engine and it runs straight as you would expect.

the car is due a cambelt change due to age not mileage so will be doing this at the same time.

could this wobble be due to the damper in it or even worse the crank nose being damaged etc?

We saw some knackered "toothed belt pulleys" on here, so maybe worth a replacement

I am sure the crank will be ok.these pulleys do go like this sometimes.I have changed a couple on AANs in the last year with the same issue, never heard of one totally coming apart though(like on the 5 pot diesel,(catastrophic))

new ones for abys are crazy money,3 or 4 hundred quid i believe

thanks guys luckily i have a spare from another engine.
ive managed to borrow the tools to remove the pulley etc but i take it its best to get the timing marks lined up first, could someone point me in this direction? i know of ones on the pully, through the flywheel/clutch window etc

its been years since i changed a cambelt

You can all but ignore the crank pulley timing mark if you can find the flywheel one (not always easy!). You only need the marks on the flywheel and the cam pulley. Worth checking the cams are timed correctly. The marks on the cam sprockets should be pointing at each other inline with the top of the cylinder head.

If you're using a locking tool then I think it locks the engine 180 degrees away from TDC. So be aware of this when loosening and tightening bolts.

You can always use a dial gauge down the spark plug hole of cylinder #1 to ensure you're at TDC.
