    Mystery Part

    3B Coupe

Has anyone came across a green 'bottle' buried horizontally in the lower passenger side rear quarter panel area? It has what appears to be a single vacuum line connected?

What does this service? Central locking vacuum? Diff lock vacuum?

I will post a pic later to clarify what im on about.

    Cheers

Its a vacuum reservoir. It stores vacuum, or a lack of air. I think its for the CL.

The question is, is a vacuum reservoir full or empty when there is no vacuum in it????? - Thought of the day......

A bottle is considered 'empty' when there is no IRN-BRU left in it because bottles are made to store IRN-BRU, even though the bottle might be full of air.
The vacuum reservoir is made to store vacuum, so when there is no vacuum present, it is 'empty'.

Cheers for that. I was routing a new battery cable to the boot and came across the part. Then i noticed that the connection was broken. Very flimsy piece of plastic to connect the line to. Looks like i'll be needing to find a new one.

          Nicely concluded.

I think it's for the rear diff lock so hardly essential but best not to have it leaking

So when it is full of air there is a lack of a lack of air, so its empty, even thought there is more air in it! But when its full of a lack of air, theres nothing in it. I understand.

Moral of the story is, dont be fooled if someone sells you a vacuum reservoir thats full of vacuum.... theres actually nothing in it, and as soon as you open it the nothing will escape

Unless, of course, you open it in an envronment where the ambient pressure is less than the pressure in the reservoir... or, it's in a vacuum when you open it.

Maybe best not open it... And if you do by accident, you need to get out the Hoover to fix it...
