    Does fully synthetic oil smoke?

This may seem like a daft question and in fact it may well be.

Basically, when I left the s2 round to a local mechanic to check for boost leaks he couldn't find any, all sorts of things got the blame then, starting with the rings, valve seats etc, anyway once we found out that he hadn't blocked the oil breather the turbo was next on the blame list. He reckon's the boost was leaking past the seals and into the exhaust and the smoke test didn't show any from the exhaust because of the cats (fair enough).

Then he asked me was I using oil and if the car smoked. I do seem to use a bit but it never smokes. I was told that becuase I am using fully synthetic oil it will not create smoke when it burns, "sure look at chainsaws on fully synthetic 2 stroke", I was told, "they dont smoke"!

Just wondering if there is any truth to this statement, I reckon there no better guys to know that some of you on here!

    WTF

If you have oil leaking into the combustion part of the engine or the exhaust, then it'll smoke

Get the car looked at by someone who knows what they're doing and what they're talking about, should save you lots of time and money instead of replacing stuff that someone 'thinks' is wrong.

Had this on a mate's car recently that wasn't boosting. Looked like the previous owner had spent well in excess of £1000 replacing everything and the cost of the actual repair was much less than £100 for the part that was actually broken - the MFTS.

Edit:- found the thread - http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...t=60741&page=3

Beleive me, If I could find such a person i would do. I think i am firmly on my own with this one with the help and advice from the vast shared knowledge on here.

I disconnected my MFTS with no difference in boost so sorta ruled that one out. I'm in the process of trying to get another daily so I can take the S2 into the garage and spend some time checking everything out.

The synthetic oil wont smoke thing didn't sound right to me either.

Have you checked your DV? I did scan your thread and suggested injector seats too

Also check the line going to the DV and the orientation of the DV too, if not already done.

ask him to open his bonnet after driving it and poor your fully synthetic oil on his exhaust manifold and check that for smoke lol i don't know why a mechanic can never just say " i don't know, sorry"...

hope you resovle the issue yourself and can go back to the garage and throw it back in his face
