    Electronic boost controllers

hi people, just wondering why in many kind of high spec cars they uses Electronic boost controllers...

i am a bit into the Lancer EVO world and many people there tune their cars + fits EBC.... i am also wondering WHY the poeple with S2/RS2 does not use them? is there any risks if you do the things correctly'?

is there some problems to use them with Motronics or our old cars? because i have never seen any S2 with EBC...

If the ancient motronics works in a correct way, there is no need to used stand alone unit. And it's a bit risky in my opinion. I've seen the application when something went wrong on Motronic and user was not able to solve it properly.

I don't know about the EVO but the boost controller built into motronic makes all those standalone units look like child toys.

It's a full closed loop PID controller with 3D TPS/RPM based wastegate linearization and 3D TPS/RPM target boost map, plus it has boost shutdown in case of various things that can go wrong.

The question is - what would you do with a boost controller? If you just want low boost and normal boost, then put a switch on the N75. Easily done with only 5$ worth of components so that there is not even a fault code, and the ECU will operate fine.

Basically the question is - what do you expect it to do, and why do you need it?

Will reply later,I'm watching alien the eighth passenger

well, i only was asking about it because i am curious why there in the EVO world are so known and here not.

AFAIK they uses it to control boost in lower gears to improve traction,to care the second gear and to have different boost "setups" depending what are you loking for or who is driving the car

i did not know anything about this N75 trick.... how does it works? is like to put a manual valve but with all the advantages of the N75 electronic control for fail safes etcc?? or how? to make an example,my car, boost is set to 2.2bar true? in all gears. so imagine that you are driving on wet conditions or Ksenia wants to drive it and of course you are worried because the car itself is too fast to be driven for a girl , would be possible to set the boost target easily to 1.2bar all the time (as a example) keeping it to redline or 1.7Bar who cares.... or is it not easy as we think? you already said 5$

and this is just for information, and to learn.. but after all the only one thing i am after is to have my car well maped with aquamist and because now it is too rich

Don,t no how well it would work on a car but on the drag bikes we use AMS 1000 boost controler,s some bike,s have motec, some don,t but they are the best by fare. Can,t see why they wouldn,t work. Maybe have a look at them see what you think. Hope this helps. Allso the units are water proof just in case you go diving with it. Btc motronic,s sell them 01206272765.

Well, what's the point when you can just not push the throttle all the way?
Give it 70% of throttle, it will probably be around 1.8 bar.

I don't see any point playing with the boost settings. Maybe it will be fun for a couple times but then you will just leave it as-is.

it is true, but you know... the accelerator pedal is very sensitive and not always is easy or confortable to stay 75%TPS is easier WOT and dont worry for anything

now i am going to install the SLC drivers.... i need them to Log the boost vs egt vs rpm vs AFR ....

so the N75 trick is "much" the same like the manual valve without the electronic boost control with fail safes...

thanks for the advice because the EBC are very common in the EVOs

I guess you mean Greddy Profec B?

I also had a this controller on a 1.8T AEB and it worked like a charm, very easy to adjust and gives you a "girlfriend/wife-mode". Greddy went the wrong direction with their spec2 version of this controller and made it way to complicated

And to answer prj why someone use aftermarket boost controller is because several tuners in Norway only change fuel/ignition map, not boost. You can call it an easy way, but not necessarily the best
