    Dual Mass Flywheel (non S2)

Just wanting some advice from the knowledge on here, I have an Audi 80 cabby with the 1.8 engine (ADR I beleive). When I bought the car there was a slight crunch in 3rd gear so as part of the deal the gearbox was removed and recon'd. at the same time I had a new clutch fitted (I paid parts only).

From that I noticed a slight clutch judder when taking off, Ithought nothng mre of it as I thought the clutch may bed in and as I never rally drove it (wifes car) it was left at that. 4 years later and the clutch judder is still there and I am selling the car to a mate who is concerned about it as he thinks it may be the dual mass flywheel.

The thing is if you leave teh car for a week or 2 its grand gor the first few days you start using it, but as the days go by the judder re-appears. There is no stange noise etc at tick over and driveing in any gear at any speed is grand, it's just taking off from a stand still it judders.

Do you reckon it's just a poor clutch that was fitted? Car had 55k when it was fitted, has 71k on it now.

    Cheers

change the clutch and flywheel to some singelmass ditto, you need spings in center of clutchplate then.. and i think the problem are gone...
i bought the new flywheel( flat one in steel) and steg 3+ whith springs in center, disk an bearing and bolts from 034.. work out wery well( cheap to... about 5500 norwegian krones)..( for a 1,8t audi engine)

Just went out and had a quick look at the car, the clutch biting point is about an inch from the top. This got me thinking, is this car meant to have a gearbox spacer as mine doesnt. wouldn't be out of the question that it was missed as the gearbox was taken out, sent away to be worked on and fitted again a week later.

      Cheers.

One other thing I just noticed is that I have a coolant leak at the back of the head (theres a plastic bolt on joint), this is leaking coolant onto the bell housing, possibly also onto the clutch and or dual mass.

What effect may coolant have on the setup?

Rusty makes a metal replacement for the plastic pipe you're talking about ?

Check with him if it's an issue.

          Kind regards.
