do i need to brake in the engine again?

Hi, everyone so long story short I rebuilt my whole motor a few months ago bottom up, with performance parts to run my holset super 40, then i ran into the problem that my oil pump shattered from the front, and small metal pieces went into the engine, so i disassembled the whole motor and everything checked out, I just had the cylinder walls honed out, and still using the same JE pistons and rings, and i just had the valve guides replaced, so the only new things to the motor is the valve guides, and honed cylinder walls, do you think there is a need to do a break in process again, thoughts on this? thanks in advance

You might have oil consumption due to the re-hone.
If you did not change rings there was no point to hone...

If there was no chipping/scoring on the rings then as a bodge you can re use them. Hoeever whenever you hone the bores you have to run the engine in again with mineral oil so the rings can reseat. If you dont expect high oil consumption in the long run.

the walls had slight scoring on them from the metal particles, and the rings were inspected (so this is why they were re-used), so in other words i should do another break-in to help reseat the rings with the new walls?

The reason as stated here for changing rings when re-hone is because the cylinders get oval over the time due to crankshaft/rod motion, men when you re-hone it obviously get round again, but your seal-rings do not...with higher oil consumption and lower compression as result.

And when it comes to braking in the engine, take a look at this

the engine had about 1700 miles on it, i understand your methodology, the reason i was only saying because the shop that I had hone my cylinder walls out said that the rings were fine and didnt need replacement, is this true? or are they completely wrong on this?
