    Spark Plug Experts

Anybody got any opinions on the plugs in the following photos. From my AAN engine. I took 6 photos of the 5 plugs for some reason.

They don't seem too bad..but looks like they've done a lot of heat cycles, 15-20k miles?

Look ok, maybe a little lean or it was driven in anger before they were pulled. The one dirty one is interesting, which cyl did it come out of? You may have a weak spark on that cyl.

Why do all the other plugs look clean and that one has dirty look to the outer side ? Has it had fulid down the spark plug hole ?

It's running lean! And something looks wrong with the one AndyP mentioned! Have you ever changed your lifters ruber seals? I bet you losing oil.

                  I think it was #3.

I'll put a new plug in there today.

I'm not sure. Maybe somebody do a compression test recently.

I might pull that this afternoon too for a look.

                  Thanks for this information.

The car has 230k miles on it and no service history. I'll change that spark plug and maybe the rocker cover gasket this afternoon.

Regarding running lean, I changed the recirc valve yesterday which solved a hesitation on boost so maybe that was causing it to run lean. I'll also check the chips in the ECU. I'm planning to put a standard ECU in there too in case the chips are an ebay special or something.

I found when changing the coils over some of my rocker cover bolts where slack, my number 5 was covered in oil around the rubber boot and spark was like yours. Tighten the bolts, checked recent when changing spark and no signs of oil seeping in. Hopefully it's an easy fix like that
