Ok guys, been in the garage for last few days trying to figure it out,
AND I DID!!
The driveshafts and prop shaft HAVE to be connected, or you will engage in any gear while engine is runing
Without pressing the clutch pedal!!! And make you think that is something wrong with clutch or gearbox or another 1000 thoughts why?
Thank you very much for all who helped
And and ? Welcome to the QUATTRO world

I have just read back through the thread. I thought the issue was you couldn't get it to take gears. However you are saying you can get gears even when the clutch isn't pressed?
Have you had somebody check to see if the gearbox output shafts stop spinning when the clutch is pressed down but still in gear?
One more thing. Do you have to force the slave cylinder in or can you comfortably push it in by hand? If you do have to force it in then you need to try a shorter rod as it will be pushing on the pressure plate fingers.Leave a comment:

I'm just thinking if drive shafts and prop shaft is not conected it's normal that you can engage into gear while engine is running

The car will not work as a fwd with the prop removed if that is what you mean? (unless you lock the centre diff). If the diff is open and a wheel is off the ground or a shaft removed all drive goes to the point of least resistance.Leave a comment:

With the clutch assembly bolted to the crank.
Measure from the inside of the spigot bearing to the tip of the clutch fingers then do the same from the end of the gearbox shaft to the release bearingLeave a comment:

thank you mate for input, pic. your pressure plate does look that spring leaves are above the rim, compare to mine that is nearly flat with the rim .
i'll double check on those score marks on the gearbox, i missed that! and input shaft i think it is ok it's just from dirty/oily gloves.
but the thing is i have no strange noise coming from gearbox if that pressure plat is touching gearbox. and even if it's touching it should drive gearbox!
i know it's not a rocket science but still can't figure it out what is wrong and it drives me mad for last three days now...Leave a comment:

Also looks like there are some score marks in the bellhousing of the gearbox not to mention the end of the input shaft loking a bit rough!
Can't quite see but it looks like there are still some ID numbers on the cover which might help. They are on the other side of the Type240 ID.Last edited by twoqu; 3 December 2012, 22:14.Leave a comment:

Pic of the Sachs 707! Maybe someone can give you a stock 3b measurement for reference just in case it is different.Attached FilesLeave a comment:

I have only got the Sachs 707 pressure plate to hand but the dimension from the bottom to the top of the fingers is @58mm and from the face to the fingers @52.5mm.
The other thing that appears odd is that the fingers on my pressure plate are above the rim of the pressure plate when viewed from the side! I'll try and get a pic.Leave a comment:
