Im not sure they can be refurbished without being sent away to be rebuilt, ive got a feeling you have to buy a new pump. Im sure Martyn or Ben can set us straight on this one.

The power steering pump has been quieter since I fitted it with a new belt - which is a relief, as they are not cheap to replace.
I am still getting a rumble which I am now certain is coming from the cam belt tensioner pulley. I have got a new tensioner and water pump coming and hope to fit them this weekend so hopefully that should sort it. Of course these items should have been replaced when the cambelt was changed. Don't you just love garages that do half a job?!!
I have since reassessed the situation with my bomb - and I think that is starting to shows signs of failing. The light only ever comes on if the car has been standing for at least a couple of hours and only beeps once soon after the car is started and then goes off straight away. I have now got in the habit of testing the brake pedal before I start the car and invariably it feels dead first thing in the morning. I guess if the bomb was working properly it still should retain some assistance? Doing the pump test it takes about 32 pumps to empty the bomb if the car has only just been turned off, which is not that bad. What do you guys get who have just changed your bombs?

Put a magnet in the powersteering fluid tank. If the pump is broken you will see metal chips on it. This is also a way to clean the sytem of these metal parts.
If the pump is broken the noise will get worse until your gasoline car sounds like a diesel.

At mine S4 the pump was NOK but also the bearing of the visco-fan.

            Just an update.
Since fitting the new belt to the power steering pump not only has the rumble gone my autocheck light has stopped coming on too!
Maybe the old belt was just knackered and not holding proper tension.
Still plan to fit the new water pump though as should be done about now anyway.
