that is a statement that cannot be verified unless we do an audit at least of the forum member's experience. You cannot assume the KKK are more robust when the vast amount of S2/RS2 owners keep their car's stock and dont tamper with them.
On the subject though, a down to earth stock rs2 setup is more than enough for most. Dont take my experience as standard as it isnt!
It all depends on the owner, some take care of the turbo's by letting them cool down at the end of a hard run, checking for boost leaks often and just basically listening to the engine.
Others just rag the hell out of them from cold, turn it off when hot and generally let the turbo kill itself thru boost leaks etc.
on the factory manual they said you don t need to let it warm up, just don t exceed 2000rpm before it is on 90 degrees and before stopping after a trash only, let it cool down for a bit : the safety cool down is after run pump which it is gonna cool the coolant even if the car it not cooled down properly.
I normally take it from cold start and drive it till the oil has heated up to around 60c by that time heat in the engine is just under 90. Cool down I just cruise home no boosting, drops half way between the 90c and 60c is it?? Then park up keep fans blasting heat out, open bonnet turn off.
But with this minus temps going on, the car takes ages to properly heat up, so always worried what to do. Like the other day a normal ten minutes warms up to under 90c but it just made two marks over the 60c
I know of three premature turbo failures with a local "tuner". He was fitting roller bearing turbos so some Jap cars and didn't fit a restrictor (regulator?) in the oil feed line.
