id probably say that not ALL owners of S2/RS2 cars are in a forum, or this forum and judging by the fact that even in this forum there are quite a few who keep their car fairly standard, id bet that most havent been tampered with.

If you go by the sales of these cars in europe or worldwide and then see how many owners write in a forum, then see how many have tuned their cars, then you'd see where im coming from.

I believe that a lot are tuned, but those that are, are the most vocal in social feeds anyway, so a vibe is created that all 5cyl engines are 400+hp cars.

thats just my impression. I dont know of many non tuned cars, because this is the only forum i read. But as i say, most that are not interested in a modification, wouldnt bother being members in this or similar like this forums.

+ think of the fact of how many owners these cars have changed as well. Back in 1993-96, i bet you most owners had no clue as to what a remap is. Today is different. Its a sin not to have a remap or a gadget!

again, i cannot say for 2 reasons:

        1) im not looking into the ads
        2) the cars for sale in this forum come from enthusiasts, therefore likely tuned.

All swiss owned cars are standard by law, as all tunes are not allowed. On mobile.de there used to be a lot for sale rs2/s2 just standard.(havent looked for a while), etc.

Finally as i mentioned, some cars have had more than 2 owners, and the history is vast. If you put it that way, then sure, at some point in their lives, many S2 eventually get tuned.

its funny how spink always manages to break 'standard' ABY/AAN engines though...

            quick search

mobile.de audi rs2. Out of 16 rs2 currently for sale, only 4 have at least a remap (engine tuning, not wheels or badges). Even though i cannot consider that a proper sample, its an indication at least.

You should know how many swiss cars are tuned
It's a very big S/RS market there, and believe me, they get tuned! A lot of Sportec and MTM tuned cars.

The garrett is a great turbo, but Im more than happy with my K26/7 hybrid. Speaking from experience, the garrett or any BB will give you quicker throttle response due to its faster spooling, and make boost earlier although peak boost tends not to be significant due to mapping out surge.

The KKK hybrid is easier to fit, cheaper, more reliable, less work - no custom lines required, exhaust alterations etc. It looks like that is your best path according to your requirements.

If you dont mind the extra work, a BB turbo like the MD357 or Garrett offerings will yield 450-500hp with similar response to RS2 (RS2 mapped =360-380). A KKK K26/7 hybrid will give you 400-480 depending on spec.

Personally - if you got no lag, you got no turbo - im happy with circa 430-450hp and bags of power above 4000rpm. It still makes a bit of boost between 3-4k so doesnt feel dead round town. Id say about 3-500rpm delay on boost over an equivalent garrett. The turbo on my RS2 that it replaced had been running 1.9bar for 75000 miles and looked like it would do that again no problem.

You are having this experience as you never had a garrett turbo work with aftermarket management. I know what prj will respond to this post of mine, that ecu has nothing to do with it but throttle responce and surge can be dealt with and a garrett turbo be miles better than a kkk without the boost dialing out you had to have when mapping the motronic on it.

That's my personal experience when 2 different people tried to map the 3071 on mine with the small hotside and failed on the motronic and somehow I managed to get it right with vems.

Haven't seen one k26/7 yet make more than 450 hp on fairly non exotic engine mods while lag wise its similar to a 3076r on 0.82ar

Surely its the VE of the engine that determines the level of surge or not?

Yes. But the comparison unwashed able to do was on a stock engine cyl. Head with only change the management and boost control. Now that the head is ported and has larger valves its a different story. Yet its not heavily ported though
