    Conversion to Non-Interference Engine

    This is a top mod

If you are going to break the timing belt and do not want any damage to the engine, get the piston valve pockets recessed more (>1mm) and a thicker headgasket (>1.2mm thicker than standard metal HG).

The valves will not kiss the pistons.

I am speaking from experience here - I was glad I designed this failsafe into my car

Oh - and if you drop a nut - find where it went before turning the car over.

I think I have been very lucky - apart from the stealers prices for a new crank pulley.

Doug, sounds like you have been very lucky indeed! I can't imagine how you felt when that happened. Are you going to have the parts you need for the weekend?

VERY lucky! Kevin(chancha) had a spare ABY belt and ordered a crank pulley and bolt from Audi - should get that this morning.

I had to trim the timing cover as my pump sits lower. There is a small gap beside the PS bracket - I had the PS bolt and nut off the car on Tuesday night. I dropped the nut - I just thought it went under the car - the nut got lodged between the crank belt and pulley - as soon as the car was turned over, the nut got pulled into the pulley by the belt and jammed on the oil pump housing, ripping the belt, and scoring the teeth of the pulley. I couldn't reuse the pulley - don't think I would want to - but my mate spent close to 1 hour filing it smooth so we could do a compression check last night.

I'll always check where my dropped nuts go now.

Or looking on the other side of it, very unlucky that the bloody nut didn't fall under the car and roll down a hill into a drain like they normally do!

Many people modify the stock pistons to lower their compression! Can someone design this modification so that with the stock RS2 head gasket the pistons and valves in case of emergency dont kiss eachother??

(Is this conversion reliable for big tuning??)

If we go for pistons like Je or some other to require that the piston has exact spec so that in such case the engine dont brakes!!!

              Greetings

I've had mucho experience of bent valves. That was so lucky mate.
Thanks for that tip. I'll remember that one for the future.

Maybe this could be done with 2 RS2 head gaskets? I have heard that many people do this so they lower th ecompression! Maybe as a side effect we have also a Non-Interference Engine>?

That is what I have - 2 metal headgaskets on my car - but I also have the valve pockets lowered.

You have 2 stock RS2 metal gaskets?
The Valve pockets must be 1mm lowered? Is it not too deep?

How much CR are you getting with these mods?
