Bad bad s4 you ve let me down

First dual carriage way opportunity since s4 taxed
Done 45 miles low speed driving fine
I think open her uP now
Overtake 2 cars then engine dies!
Wrong side of a bend, under a bridge!
    Oh sh*t!
Wont start, immobiliser light not come back on
Triangle out, ring Rac, they're 45 mins away
    They say ring Old bill
20 mins me waving like a loon @ traffic do my car isn't destroyed before police get there
    Rac hour later
"we can't tow 4wd, wait for flat bed , 45 mins
Copper doing his nut n rings their recovery
    £150
Rac truck passes in other direction as we pull off!
Get back to their base, as police called it in car will need photos, reg n chassis number, they won't take me home
    Ring Rac
They send another truck take me home so don't pay storage as depot closed for hols!
    Try car n it starts!
    Rac follow me home!
    Likely cause chaps?
Rac said battery weak with all lights heater n radio on
I haven't a clue apart from over boost in ecu maybe
    Peed off isn't string enough!

That's awful mate, what a nightmare! If I were you I would keep an emergency power pack in the boot, I always do.

Did the fuel pump short out starving the engine?

Sad story but the bottomline is you let your car down. She is a sensitive thing. You need to understand her better. You might need to talk to her (blink codes or VAG-com). She might have a cam sensor issue. In the meantime, start with this:

I thought the hall sender is only used at start-up? If so that wouldn't explain it cutting out in the first place

Leaving it till after holidays, 3 other cars to use
Thanks urs4boy, I ve already spent £800+ on it to make road worthy so I ll treat it to more new parts soon
At least it wasn't the cam belt!

Yup. That is supposed to be the way the G40 Hall Sender works, however, in reality it *CAN* (and has) stopped a running AAN (and ABY/ADU) when there is in intermittent failure issue:

              The Audi Enthusiast website. Forums for all Audis including A4, S4, A5, S5, A6, S6, allroad, A8, S8, TT, R8, Q5, Q7, 4000, 100, 200, v6, v8, vintage, local forums

The trick is to pull the codes to see if there is an intermittent ground fault code for the G40.

Some people are such pussies when it comes to recovery - namely the 'professionals'. You need a length of rope and another S4 driven by a mate. I dare say I'd have been there in 10 minutes... no charge...

if it was the battery, it shouldnt die while driving, unless the alternator is also shot to pieces

2+2 lead and a usb vagcom cable is what you need.
Then download vagcom (VCDS as its now known) from rosstec.
This will give you the lite/trial version which will pull the codes but not give a full description of what they mean but you can just look them up on the net.
If you want top go further than that pm me.

The hall sender wouldn't stop the immobiliser resetting would it?
The light by the immo plug wasn't lit as usual with the key out
It wouldn't turn over never mind fire up
So rotation less than 13rpm hall doesn't read ? Or am I talking tosh?
